A technique is provided for processing a physiological signal to compensate for artifacts. The technique includes identifying artifacts within the physiological signal. The technique also includes performing one or more multi-resolution decompositions, such as wavelet transformations, on the physiological signal and compensating for the identified artifacts in some or all of the respective decomposition components. The modified decomposition components may be reconstructed to generate an artifact-compensated signal which may be provided to a monitor or other device which is otherwise not configured to compensate for signal artifacts.

System and method for removing artifacts from waveforms

The present disclosure may provide a system and method for analyzing data acquired using a physiological monitor. In one embodiment, the analysis is performed on the physiological monitor and results in the analysis of data collected by the physiological monitor over an interval of time. The analysis may include comparing the data to sample data representative of known disease states and/or may include performing statistical analyses or recalculations of the data based on adjusted monitor settings. In one embodiment, the settings of the physiological monitor may be adjusted based on the results of the analyses.

The current techniques provide a system for monitoring a physiological parameter of a patient using microneedles that are coupled to an optical system, allowing spectroscopic measurements to be made immediately below the outer layer of the epidermis. In embodiments of the present invention, the results of the spectroscopic measurements are used to control the administration of a drug through an intravenous tube. In other embodiments, the microneedles may be coated with a drug for administration to the patient. In other embodiments, the microneedles may be mounted in a probe, wherein an actuator is used to move the needles into contact with the skin, and a drug delivery system is used to infuse the drug into the patient. A method for making needles is also provided.

The technique includes performing one or more multi-resolution decompositions on a physiological signal and one or more morphological operations on some or all of the respective decomposition components. In one embodiment, the technique is implemented as iteratively wavelet transformations where morphological operations, such as erosions and dilations, are applied to modify some or all of the respective wavelet coefficients. The modified wavelet coefficients may then be reconstructed to generate a clean version of the physiological signal from which some or all of the noise and/or artifacts have been removed.
