A curable rubber composition including a rubber, a plurality of ground particles, and a reactive surfactant represented by the formula: X—Y—Z where X is a reactive group capable of forming covalent links with the rubber during compounding or vulcanization, Y is a hydrophobic linkage, and Z is a polar group capable of forming self-assemblies via intermolecular interactions, and wherein the reactive surfactant is incompatible with the rubber and a method of making the same.

A method, and product thereof, for modifying the surface of recycled sulfur-cured rubber via surface devulcanization that minimizes alteration of the network structure of the recycled sulfur-cured rubber, while generating strong tack between mixed recycled rubber and fresh rubber for optimal adhesion upon subsequent co-curing. In one embodiment, the surface of recycled rubber is devulcanized by treating recycled rubber with a thiol and a base dissolved in a solvent that does not effectively penetrate and only minimally swells vulcanized rubbers.

Method and product of modifying vulcanized rubber

In various embodiments, the present invention is directed to terpolymers of carbon monoxide (CO), olefins (alkenes), and epoxides, as well as related methods and catalysts for their making and use. These terpolymer chains are comprised of ketone repeat units, ester repeat units, and ether repeat units. The additional presence of the ester repeat units and ether repeat units have the effect of lowering terpolymer melt temperature relative to that of similar polyketone, thus separating melt temperature from decomposition temperature, making it suitable for melt processing. In a single reaction mixture, the same metal catalyst that polymerizes CO with olefins also incorporates epoxide monomers into the terpolymer in the form of ester or ester and ether linkages. As a part of the terpolymer chain, the ester groups can undergo hydrolysis, rendering these terpolymer compositions hydrolytically degradable.

In one or more embodiments, the present invention provides an way to modify the isoprene unit using an alder-ene reaction to form thermoset compounds comprising the resultant electron-deficient, readily crosslinkable polyisobutylene-based rubber that avoids the use of corrosive bromine or chlorine to make the activated butyl rubber, is easier to crosslink than the halobutyls, allows crosslinking with a simple organic base or a peroxide, and has mechanical properties as good as or better than sulfur crosslinked butyl rubbers.

A thermoset rubber composition includes a thermoset rubber having crystallized domains dispersed therein, the crystallized domains being formed of supramolecule building blocks forming a plurality of sheet-like structures through hydrogen bonding, the sheet-like structures interacting through non-covalent interactions to form the crystallized domains within the thermoset rubber. The supramolecular building blocks may be peptides, &#x3b2;-peptides, aramid oligomers, and bis-ureas.

An oligoamide-modified elastomer includes an elastomer having oligoamide units grafted to the elastomer and forming a plurality of sheet-like structures through hydrogen bonding, the sheet-like structures interacting through non-covalent interactions to form crystalized domains within the elastomer.

The present invention is generally directed to a new class of TPEs made from peptide terminated low Tpolymers and methods for making them. The middle block of these TPE is a telechelic polymer with a Tthat is below the intended service temperature of the TPE. The terminal peptide segments of these TPEs are short (from about 1 to about 10 amino acids long) and tend to from sheet type secondary structures through intermolecular hydrogen bonds, creating physical crosslinks between polymer chains. The dissimilarity of the peptide hard component and the elastomeric soft component results in very strong segregation between the microphase domains and a low plastic deformation for the resulting TPE. And since the Tof the crystalline peptide phase can be adjusted, these new TPEs may be tailored to fit the intended service temperature and are melt-processable.

New photoresist compositions are provided that are useful for immersion lithography. Preferred photoresist compositions of the invention comprise one or more materials having a water contact angle that can be changed by treatment with base and/or one or more materials that comprise fluorinated photoacid-labile groups and/or one or more materials that comprise acidic groups spaced from a polymer backbone. Particularly preferred photoresists of the invention can exhibit reduced leaching of resist materials into an immersion fluid contacting the resist layer during immersion lithography processing.

A medical implant is coated with such poly(&#x3b2;-peptoid)s. A medical drug delivery device is coated with such poly(&#x3b2;-peptoid)s. A filtration device has pores coated with such poly(&#x3b2;-peptoid)s, and an object placed in freshwater or saltwater and having a surface in contact with the freshwater or saltwater has that surface coated with such poly(&#x3b2;-peptoid)s.
