Devices, systems and methods for digital video coding, which includes Prediction from Multiple Cross-components (PMC) methods, are described. An exemplary method for video processing includes making a first determination that a cross-component prediction (CCP) mode is disabled for a conversion between a video block of a video and a bitstream representation of the video and making a second determination, based on the first determination, regarding whether a first syntax element indicating usage of an enhanced Two-Step Cross-component Prediction Mode (TSCPM) coding tool or an enhanced cross-component linear model (CCLM) coding tool is included in the bitstream representation. The method also includes performing a conversion based on the second determination.

Cross-component prediction using multiple components

A method for processing video data is disclosed. The method includes determining a width (w) and a height (h) of a coding group based on a width (W) and a height (H) of a block that is non-dyadic and contains residual, processing the residual of the block in unit of the coding group, and performing a conversion between a visual media data and a bitstream according to a rule based on the processing.

A mechanism for processing video data implemented by a video coding apparatus is disclosed. The mechanism determines usage of one or more of a separate tree coding and a partitioning beyond a minimum size threshold for a video unit. The mechanism also disables a cross-component coding tool for the video unit based on the determination. A conversion between a visual media data and a bitstream is performed in accordance with the coding tool being disabled.

Methods, systems, and devices for implementing an adaptive color transform (ACT) during image/video encoding and decoding, including: determining, for a conversion between a video including a block and a bitstream of the video, that a size of the block is greater than a maximum allowed size for an ACT mode, and performing, based on the determining, the conversion. In response to the size of the block being greater than the maximum allowed size for the ACT mode, the block is partitioned into multiple sub-blocks. Each of the multiple sub-blocks share a same prediction mode, and the ACT mode is enabled at a sub-block level.

Several techniques for video encoding and video decoding are described. One example method includes performing a conversion between a video unit of a current picture of a video and a bitstream of the video according to a rule. The rule specifies that, for a given picture to be available as a reference picture whose motion information is used for the conversion, the given picture has a same coding tree unit size or a same coding tree block size as the current picture.

One example method includes determining, for a conversion between a video block of a video and a bitstream of the video, that the video block satisfies a condition. A video processing method includes determining, for a conversion between a current block of a video and a bitstream of the video, whether or which a partitioning scheme is enabled for coding of the current block according to a rule, and performing the conversion based on the determining. Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. Some aspects more specifically provide procedures and configurations used to perform, at a transmitter, probabilistic amplitude shaping (PAS) of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) communications using non-binary polar coding (NBPC). NBPC differs from binary polar coding (BPC) in that BPC uses a binary-input channel whereas NBPC uses a non-binary input channel. For example, while BPC uses a log likelihood ratio (LLR) with a single value corresponding to a given bit to be shaped, NBPC may use a probability mass function (PMF) to define or represent amplitude shaping target values. As another example, aspects use non-binary transformations, which reduce the number of passes to shape q bits from q passes (for BPC) to 1 pass (for NBPC).

The method includes determining, for a conversion between a video unit of a video and a coded representation of the video, a maximum number of entries of a palette of representative values used during the conversion according to a rule; and performing the conversion using the palette, and wherein the rule specifies the maximum number of entries according to a characteristic of the video unit.
