A displacement measuring system is disclosed. The system may implement a code carrier formed from a data storage medium which includes a relative displacement measurement code channel which is an arrangement of pit lines and bump lines. A composite subsystem may include an optical laser assembly, a signal processing unit, and a power driver, and can scan and decode the code carrier by focusing a laser beam on the code carrier and obtaining a group of radio frequency electric signals from the reflection of the laser beam which represents the bumps and pits of the code carrier. A central control and signal output unit can process the electric signals produced by multiple composite subsystems and output information representing incremental and absolute displacement.

A system for obtaining incremental and absolute displacement measurements using systems of electrodes that interact to form variable capacitors and systems that facilitate implementation of the method along with exemplary embodiments of these systems. The capacitors created by the disclosed method have known physical properties and corresponding known mathematical relationships. These laws are exploited in such a way by our method as to overcome inadequacies in existing systems and create superior systems. These superior systems improve upon the existing art by including economically and reliably made sensors based on the area varying principle which eliminate dead zone issues and increase accuracy through a reduction of the influence of gap variations on capacitive systems through the use of compensatory geometrical arrangements of multiple capacitive systems.

Method, system and apparatus for capacitive sensing

A scale with use reminder and weight change messages including a scale portion capable of accurately determining a weight of a person standing thereon. The scale portion includes a display for registering the weight of the person standing thereon. A central processing unit is disposed interiorly of the scale portion. The central processing unit is capable of storing the weight of the person standing on the scale portion on a first day and comparing it with the weight of the person standing on the scale portion on a next day and illustrating both on the display along with a difference between the two. The central processing unit includes programmed messages.
