Surgical table and system for positioning, or lifting, a patient for purposes of generally performing a medical procedure on a posterior-portion of the patent (such as spinal surgery). The surgical table and system comprise a patient support system, a patient-positioning system and a base. In one embodiment, the patient-positioning system is configured to lift the head or foot end of the patient independently from each other, such as in Trendelenburg or reverse-Trendelenburg positions, and is also configured to angle the patient laterally. In another embodiment, the patient support is configured with an electrically-powered track and/or rail system that extends the patient support assembly away from the base, whereby the extension of the patient support forms a cantilevered support.

Surgical table

A surgical table including a central bottom portion is provided. The surgical table includes at least one first wheel adjacent a first end of the table, at least one second wheel adjacent a second end of the table, and a first stabilizing bar connected to the first wheel and the second wheel. The stabilizing bar is movably connected to the central bottom portion. The stabilizing bar is configured for coordinated movement of the wheels.

A system for turning a person from a supine position to a prone position and vice versa includes opposing patient support platens each coupled to a corresponding end of a first and a second COG assembly, the first and second COG assemblies each coupled to a corresponding one of a pair of spindles, each one of the spindles disposed on a corresponding lift column. In yet another embodiment, registration plates, coupled to the system, conveniently align the attachment mechanisms of each COG assembly with distal ends of one or more platens. The registration plates allow for medical staff to align the system so that it straddles the operating table with the attachment mechanisms of the COG assembly in alignment with platen tubes (or other complimentary attachment mechanisms) located at the distal ends of the anterior platen.

Patient rotation apparatus

Various apparatuses for supporting a patient in a prone position are described. In embodiment, an apparatus rotates a person from a supine position to a prone position and vice versa and includes opposing patient support platens each coupled to a corresponding end of a first and a second COG assembly, the first and second COG assemblies each coupled to a corresponding one of a pair of spindles, each one of the spindles disposed on a corresponding lift column. Embodiments described herein provide for an axis of rotation that is adjustable with respect to the plane of either an upper or lower support platen. Embodiments provide for adjusting the separation distance between the axis of rotation and the center of gravity defined by the combination of the person and the supporting platens.

The present invention provides systems and methods for selectively applying electrical energy to a target location within a patient's body, particularly including tissue in the spine. The present invention applies high frequency (RF) electrical energy to one or more electrode terminals in the presence of electrically conductive fluid or saline-rich tissue to contract collagen fibers within the tissue structures. In one aspect of the invention, a system and method is provided for contracting a portion of the nucleus pulposus of a vertebral disc by applying a high frequency voltage between an active electrode and a return electrode within the portion of the nucleus pulposus, where contraction of the portion of nucleus pulposus inhibits migration of the portion nucleus pulposus through the fissure.
