A semiconductor diode scintillation detector probe, in conjunction with a base-line-stabilized, wide-bandwidth first amplifying circuit DC-coupled to a constrained-bandwidth second amplifying circuit DC-coupled, in turn, to a novel analog threshold discriminator circuit, suppresses base-line fluctuation and noise at low input count-rates, while providing a linear rate-meter response for time-random input pulse rates far in excess of what would otherwise&#x2014;as in the prior art&#x2014;be 100% saturation.

Apparatus for extending a scintillation detector's dynamic range

A radioactivity dose calibrator system measures the quantity of radioactive material contained in a sample-vial or syringe without removing the vial or syringe from its primary radiation shield. The system comprises a first radiation detector, a second radiation detector, a transportable, shielded radioactive material sample-holder, a signal-processing circuit and a video display.

A capacitive transducer which converts impulses of absorbed energy into impulses of electronic charge, combined with a unity-gain, non-inverting amplifier and an integrating capacitor which is substantially smaller than the transducer capacitance, further combined with a transconductance amplifier, comprises a simple and compact radiation detector probe. The detector probe, connected to a signal-receiving assembly through a shielded cable, comprises a useful apparatus for detecting and amplifying weak impulses of energy absorbed from X-ray photons, gamma-ray photons, or nuclear charged particles.

Charge-integrating preamplifier for capacitive transducer

The input of a source-follower, or equivalent amplifier sub-circuit, utilizing a low-transconductance, low-reverse-leakage, low-capacitance, junction field-effect transistor, with its gate-source junction forward biased, is directly connected to the input of a charge-integrating preamplifier. This provides an attractive alternative to a high-ohm resistor which is typically used as a discharge element in low-noise charge-integrating preamplifiers in nuclear-particle, x-ray, and gamma-ray spectroscopy.

A cyclotron and associated magnet coil and coil fabricating process. The cyclotron (10) includes a return yoke (12) defining a cavity (28) therein. A plurality of wedge-shaped regions called 'hills' (29) are disposed in the return yoke (12), and voids called 'valleys' (34) are defined between the hills (29). A single, substantially circular magnet coil (40) surrounds and axially spans the hills (29) and the valleys (34). The cyclotron magnet coil fabricating process includes the steps of securing a first end portion of a continuous length of sheet conductor to a substantially circular base, and positioning a first end portion of a length of insulator material coated on opposite sides with a thermosetting resin between the first end portion of the sheet conductor and the base. The length of sheet conductor and the length of insulator material are then wound about the base, and the magnet coil is heated to a temperature sufficient to cause the thermosetting resin to flow and wet adjacent turns of the sheet conductor.
