A continuous process is provided for the production of para alkyl phenols. In the process a mixture of phenol, olefin and strong organic acid, is reacted for a brief period of time. The resulting reaction mixture is quenched, and the para alkyl phenol recovered.

Continuous phenol alkylation process

A reactor for mixing fluid components at relatively low flow rates wherein the components have a very short reaction time. The reactor comprises a plurality of spaced-apart, flow-converging members for directing the flow of fluid components along the central axis of the reaction chamber. The reactor further includes a flow-deflecting element arranged downstream of each flow-converging member to divide and direct and the body of fluid flow at right angles from the central axis of the reaction chamber.

Lube oil and fuel compositions containing these additive salts are also provided for use in internal combustion engines.

The additives are hydrocarbylpoly(oxyalkylene) polyamines comprising a hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) chain of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units bonded to a nitrogen atom of a polyamine having from 2 to 12 amine nitrogens and from 2 to 40 carbon atoms with a carbon:nitrogen ratio between 1:1 and 10:1.

Lubricant compositions for internal combustion engines are provided containing dispersant additives which prevent sludge and varnish formation in the crankcase. The additives are oil-soluble poly(oxyalkylene) aminocarbamates comprising a hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) chain of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units.

Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines are provided which contain deposit control additives which maintain cleanliness of intake systems without contributing to combustion chamber deposits. The additives are poly(oxyalkylene) aminocarbamates comprising a hydrocarbyl-terminated poly(oxyalkylene) moiety composed of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units.

Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines are provided which contain deposit control additives which maintain cleanliness of intake systems without contributing to combustion chamber deposits. The additives are polyloxyalkylene carbamates comprising a hydroxy- or hydrocarbyloxy-terminated polyloxyalkylene chain of 2-5 carbon oxyalkylene units bonded through an oxycarbonyl group to a nitrogen atom of a polyamine having from 2 to 10 amine nitrogens and from 2 to 40 carbons with a carbon:nitrogen ratio between about 1:1 and 10:1.

Fuel compositions containing deposit control additives

A fuel additive is disclosed having improved rust-inhibiting properties and comprises (1) from 5 to 50 weight percent of a hydrocarbyl amine containing at least 1 hydrocarbyl group having a molecular weight between about 300 and 5000, (2) from 0.1 to 10 weight percent of a C.sub.12 to C.sub.30 hydrocarbyl succinic acid or anhydride, (3) from 0.1 to 10 weight percent of a demulsifier, and (4) 40 to 90 weight percent of an inert hydrocarbon solvent. A gasoline composition is also disclosed containing from 50 to 400 ppm of the above-identified fuel additive.

Fuel additive for distillate fuels

A mixture of high and low molecular weight hydrocarbyl amines exhibit excellent detergency and dispersancy at low concentrations in fuels. The high molecular weight hydrocarbyl amine contains at least one hydrocarbyl group having a molecular weight from about 1,900 to 5,000 and the low molecular weight hydrocarbyl amine contains at least one hydrocarbyl group having a molecular weight from about 300 to 600. The weight ratio of low molecular weight amine to high molecular weight amine in the mixture is maintained between about 0.5 and 5:1.

Hydrocarbyl amine additives for distillate fuels

The reaction products of hydrocarbyl-substituted amines with certain polyfunctional coupling agents, find use as detergents in distillate fuel compositions. The hydrocarbyl group is normally derived from natural sources or polyolefins of from about 420 to 10,000 average molecular weight. The polyfunctional coupling agents are certain polyhalides, polycarboxylic acids, and organic polyisocyanates.
