An electrical connector includes a body with a terminal cavity that defines a terminal axis. The terminal cavity is adapted to accommodate an electrical terminal and has a contact area that includes a terminal lock. The terminal cavity also has a connection area that is open in a block direction that is perpendicular to the terminal axis. The electrical connector includes a block that is movable relative to the body to a latched position, and when the block is in the latched position it is located in the block direction from the connection area.

The present application relates to an electrical assembly. An assembly includes a housing, a tray, a flat cable, and a terminal subassembly. The tray may be partially disposed within the housing and may include a slot and a cavity. The tray may be formed separately from the housing. The flat cable may include an electrical conductor with an exposed portion. The terminal subassembly may include a first terminal connected to a first end of a subassembly conductor and a second terminal connected to a second end of the subassembly conductor. A portion of the flat cable may be disposed in the cavity. A first portion of the terminal subassembly may be disposed in the slot and a second portion of the terminal subassembly may be disposed in the cavity. The second terminal may be electrically connected to the exposed electrical conductor.

Electrical assembly

An assembly includes a housing, a flat cable, a first wire, a second wire, a first terminal, a second terminal, and a divider. The flat cable may be disposed at least partially in the housing and may include a first exposed conductor portion and a second exposed conductor portion. The first wire and the second wire may be disposed partially in the housing. The first terminal and the second terminal may be disposed in the housing. The first terminal may be connected to the first exposed conductor portion and the first wire such that the first exposed conductor portion is electrically connected to the first wire. The second terminal may be connected to the second exposed conductor portion and the second wire such that the second exposed conductor portion is electrically connected to the second wire. The divider may be disposed between the first terminal and the second terminal.

An electrical connector includes a housing. The housing defines a terminal cavity that extends along a connector axis. The terminal cavity has a height that is perpendicular to the connector axis. The terminal cavity has a width that is perpendicular to the connector axis and also perpendicular to the height. The width is greater than the height. The terminal cavity adapted to accommodate a flat cable inserted in an insertion direction parallel to the connector axis. The electrical connector also includes a polarizer that extends parallel to the height. The polarizer is located within the width. The polarizer is adapted to prevent insertion into at least part of the terminal cavity.

Electrical term finals and electrical connector assemblies for electrically conductive structures are described. An example electrical terminal has a terminal head and an electrical contact. The electrical contact extends from the terminal head and has a lengthwise axis and a spring finger contact. The spring finger contact is movable relative to the terminal head and has a cantilever portion and a contact portion. The cantilever portion extends away from the terminal head and away from the lengthwise axis of the electrical contact. The contact portion extends from the cantilever portion.

A connector assembly includes a housing with a terminal cavity and a terminal lock adapted to retain an electrical terminal in the terminal cavity. A terminal position assurance is attached to the housing and engages the terminal lock. The connector assembly also includes a protector plate with a protector body having a front plate face and an opposed back plate face. Terminal openings pass through the protector body. A plurality of staged locks are attached to the protector body for relative rotational movement. The staged locks extending beyond the front plate face and also extending beyond the back plate face. The protector plate is movable relative to the housing in a mate direction from a pre-stage position to a pre-lock position. The protector plate is retained in the pre-lock position relative to the housing against further movement in the mate direction by a staged lock.

A sealed electrical connector assembly includes a connector housing having a first end, a second end, and an opening that extends from the first end to the second end. The opening defines an inner surface of the connector housing. A seal is disposed within the opening of the connector housing and includes a first end, a second end, an outer surface, and a slot that extends from the first end of the seal to the second end of the seal. The outer surface of the seal is in sealing engagement with the inner surface of the connector housing, and the slot defines an inner surface of the seal. A flat flexible conductor disposed within the slot of the seal and includes a plurality of electrically conductive traces and an outer surface. The outer surface of the flat flexible conductor is in sealing engagement with the inner surface of the seal.

A protector plate for use with an electrical connector has a protector body. The protector body has a front plate face and an opposed back plate face. The protector plate includes one or more terminal openings that pass through the protector body. A plurality of staged locks are attached to the protector body for relative rotational movement. The staged locks extend beyond the front plate face. The staged locks also extend beyond the back plate face.

An electrical connector assembly includes an electrically conductive structure having a flat flexible conductor that supports a plurality of electrically conductive traces. A wire contact wedge includes a base having an opening extending therethrough and first and second wedge arms that extend from the base. The electrically conductive structure extends through the opening of the base and between the first and second wedge arms. A connector housing supports the wire contact wedge and the electrically conductive structure. The connector housing includes a body having an abutment surface that engages a corresponding abutment surface of the base of the wire contact wedge. A front cover is supported on the connector housing and includes a retaining arm that cooperates with a corresponding protrusion provided on the wire contact wedge.

A method of assembling a terminal assembly includes a terminal and a terminal insert. The terminal insert may be configured to be disposed at least partially in the terminal; the terminal and the terminal insert may be configured to receive at least a portion of a wire; and/or the terminal and the terminal insert may be configured to be crimped to the said wire. The terminal insert may include a first insert wing, a second insert wing a third insert wing, and/or a fourth insert wing. The terminal may include a first wing, a second wing, a third wing, and/or a fourth wing. The first wing of the terminal may be disposed proximate the first wing of the terminal insert and/or the second wing of the terminal may be disposed proximate the second wing of the terminal insert.

An electrical terminal includes a terminal base. A mate portion is attached to the terminal base and is adapted to mate with a corresponding electrical terminal. A conductor contact portion includes a box attached to the terminal base. The box defines an interior space. A lever extends from a wall of the box. The lever includes a curved portion that extends toward the terminal base. The lever is adapted to engage a conductor of a wire inserted into the box. The lever includes lift tabs that extend from the lever to outside the box.

A fuse adapter assembly includes a fuse adapter having an adapter base. A fuse shroud extends from the adapter base and defines a fuse cavity. An adapter shroud also extends from the adapter base and defines an adapter terminal space. A fuse terminal opening passes through the adapter base between the fuse cavity and the adapter terminal space. A fuse enclosure is located within the fuse cavity and is configured to retain a fuse. The fuse cavity is configured to engage a header and the adapter shroud is configured to engage an electrical connector.

An electrical terminal includes a terminal base. A mate portion is attached to the terminal base. The mate portion is adapted to mate with a corresponding electrical terminal. The electrical terminal includes a conductor contact portion. The conductor contact portion includes a box attached to the terminal base. A lever extends from one wall of the box. The lever is curved to extend toward the terminal base. The lever is adapted to engage a conductor of a wire inserted into the box. The electrical terminal also includes an insulation contact portion. The insulation contact portion is attached to the terminal base. The insulation contact portion is adapted to engage an insulation of the wire.

A header assembly includes a header having a header base. An engagement portion extends from the header base and defines a bus bar space. A header shroud also extends from the header base and defines a terminal space. A terminal opening passes through the header base between the bus bar space and the terminal space. The engagement portion is configured to engage a bus bar and the header shroud is configured to engage an electrical connector.
