An improved method and apparatus for covering a pipeline wherein a fluid-solid fill mixture is continuously deposited over the pipeline and at least a portion of the fluid is continuously removed from the mixture while simultaneously and continuously forming the solid fill in a predetermined contour over the pipeline. In another aspect, an improved method and apparatus is provided in which the tendencies of erosional forces to uncover a pipeline are reduced by forming a consolidated layer over the exposed surface of the said fill.

A pipe coating composition is provided having good crack resistance properties that consists essentially of about 50 to 70 wt. % mineral aggregate, about 15 to 35 wt. % finely divided mineral filler, about 5 to 20 wt. % asphalt, about 0.05 to 7 wt. % of a rubbery radial teleblock copolymer, about 0 to 7 wt. % of an oil, and about 0 to 0.5 wt. % of a fibrous material. Further more, the crack resistance of a pipe coating composition is dramatically improved by using an asphalt rubber composition in which the rubber is an epoxy-coupled radial teleblock copolymer as compared to a silicon tetrahalide-coupled radial teleblock copolymer of essentially the same structure.

A method is provided for stabilizing an open graded course of asphalt-concrete against lateral displacement under a moving load. The method which is suitable for use during construction of the asphalt-concrete course or on courses already completed is carried out by causing particulate matter of suitable size to be passed into the interstices of the asphalt-concrete course and then consolidating this particulate matter within the interstices using an emulsion of a thermoplastic elastomer, a resinous material and a polar solvent which upon curing forms a stabilized course.

Stabilizing open graded asphalt-concrete

A reservoir containing layered liquids is lined with a liner comprising a reaction resistant material lining the portion of the reservoir in contact with a reactive liquid with the remainder of the reservoir lined with a material that is not resistant to reaction with the reactive liquid. In a specific embodiment asphalt impregnated nonwoven fabric is used to line a reservoir portion in contact with water and butyl rubber impregnated nonwoven fabric is used to line the portion of the reservoir in contact with a hydrocarbon liquid floating on top of the water layer. In a specific embodiment sheets of liner material are fastened together in a liquid proof seal produced by facing liner sheets to be joined together, overlapping the face sheets with a layer of nonwoven fabric, sewing through the four strata laminate thus produced, and treating the nonwoven fabric with a liquid proofing substance.
