A text entry dialog box () is disclosed for use with an associated window and associated user. A text entry space () is provided for text entry by the user. A memory () stores previous text entries. A selection button () is displayed when the memory () contains at least one previous text entry. A selection list () is displayed when the selection button () is selected by the user. The invention may alternately be viewed as a modified drop-down list box (). The text line () is editable, and the visibility of the drop-down selection arrow () is conditional upon the selection list () containing at least one entry. Preferably, a parser () parses the edited text line contents, and the selection list () contains previous text entries entered in the editable text line (), parsed by the parser (), and containing at least one character after the parsing.

Text entry dialog box system and method of using same

A computer program product is provided as a system and associated method that allows the user to view a hierarchical lineage in a tree format even in the event of recursive circular relationships. The system prevents the lineage tree from being infinitely expandable truncating tree expansion when encountering a child that has previously appeared in the tree. If the user attempts to expand on an object that leads to a child already displayed in the tree, the system replaces the child's icon with one that resembles a recursive icon. The recursive icon is displayed by the system at the point of recursion, showing that an infinite, recursive relationship has occurred.

A set of data field characters is displayed in a primary data field if the number of characters in this set of data field characters is equal to or less than the displayable capacity of the primary data field. If the number of characters in the set of data field characters is greater than the displayable capacity of the primary data field, then a proper subset of the set of data field characters is displayed in the primary data field in conjunction with the display of an indicia associated with the primary data field. In response to a user interaction with the indicia, the proper subset of data field characters and at least one additional character from the set of data field characters are displayed in a secondary data field, wherein the proper subset of data field characters and the at least one additional character are simultaneously viewable by the user in the secondary data field.

Dual mode data field

The present invention automatically formats input data compatible for use with a workstation application into formatted input data compatible with a host application. The input data is in one example updated to include customized settings, such as setup options. After the update, a format module, incorporated within the application, confirms completion of the update and automatically creates a formatted input data file which is compatible with the host application. A user interface is provided to allow selection of file identification and delivery options for the formatted input data. The formatted input data may be stored in a single location, such as on a host, where it can be used with both a workstation and the host. Formatting of the input data may be automatic and transparent to the user. User implementation of file identification and delivery options allows for convenient manipulation of the formatted input data.
