Disclosed herein are novel oleanolic acid derivatives. Methods of preparing these compounds are also disclosed. The oleanolic acid derivatives of this invention may be used for the treatment and prevention of many diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, inflammation, and pathologies involving oxidative stress.

Novel herbicidal compounds, compositions containing them, and methods for their preparation and use in controlling weeds are disclosed. The novel herbicidal compounds are 3-(pyrazolylphenyl)propanoic acids and derivatives having the formula:

It has now been found that certain novel (oxaalkyl)phenyl-substituted heterocycles are useful as pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. These compounds are represented by formula I: ##STR1## where Q is a heterocycle and X, Y, R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, and R.sup.3 are substituents as described in the specification. Preferred are those compounds where Y and R are chloro; R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen or alkylaminocarbonyl; X is fluorine; and Q is a 1-substituted-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedion-3-yl.

Herbicidal (oxaalkyl) phenyl-substituted heterocycles

Herbicidal heterocyclic benzisoxazoles and benzisoxazolidinones

Novel herbicidal compounds, compositions containing them, and methods for their use in controlling weeds are disclosed. The novel herbicidal compounds are represented by formula I: ##STR1## where J is a 1-substituted-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4-pyrimidinedione-3-yl, a 1-substituted-6-trifluoromethyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-dion-1-yl, a 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimid-1-yl, a 4-difluoromethyl-4,5-dihydro-3-methyl-1,2,4-triazol-5(1H)-on-1-yl, a 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1H,3H-[1,3,4]thiadiazolo[3,5-a]pyridazineimin-1-yl, or a 1,6,8-triazabicyclo[4.3.0]-nonane-7,9-dion-8-yl ring attached at the 7 position of a benzofuran, benzoxazole, indole, 2,3-dihydrobenzimidazole or benzimidazole, and X is selected from hydrogen, halogen, cyano, nitro, and amino. Preferred R groups are optionally substituted alkyl groups.

It has now been found that certain novel benzyloxyphenyl-substituted heterocycles are useful as pre-emergent and post-emergent herbicides. These compounds are represented by formula I: ##STR1## where Q is 1-substituted-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4(1H,3H)-pyrimidinedion-3 -yl, 4-difluoromethyl-4,5-dihydro-3-methyl-1,2,4-triazol-5(1H)-on-1-yl, 4-halo-5-difluoromethoxy-1-methylpyrazol-3-yl, a 3,4,5,6-tetrahydrophthalimid-1-yl, 8-thia-1,6-diazabicyclo�4.3.0!-nonane-7-on-9-iminoyl, 4-methyl-1,2,4-triazine-3,5-dion-2-yl, 3-chloro-4,5,6,7-tetrahydroindazol-2-yl, 1,4-dihydro-4-(3-fluoropropyl)-5H-tetrazole-5-on-1-yl or a 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazolo-�4,3-a!pyridin-3(2H)-on-2-yl moiety; Z is oxygen, sulfur or CH.sub.2 ; n is 0 or 1, and W, X, Y, R, and R.sup.1 are as described in the specification. Preferred are those compounds where W is oxygen; X is hydrogen or fluoro; Y is methyl or ethyl; n is 1; Z is oxygen; R is methyl; and R.sup.1 is hydroxyalkyl or CH.sub.2 OCONHCH.sub.3.

Herbicidal benzyloxyphenyl-substituted heterocycles

Herbicidal 3-(substituted benzoxazol-7-yl) and 3-(substituted benzothiazol-7-yl)-1 -substituted-6-trifluoromethyl-2,4-(1H,3H)pyrimidinediones, compositions containing them, and methods of using them to control undesired plant growth are disclosed, as are novel intermediates used in the preparation of these compounds. The herbicidal compounds of the present invention are defined by the following generic structure: ##STR1## in which R is selected from a variety of substituents, including halogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, phenyl, phenylalkyl, alkylphenylalkyl, haloalkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, hydroxyalkyl, halophenyl, halophenylalkyl, alkoxyphenyl, sulfhydryl, alkylthio, piperidinyl, alkylamino, alkoxyalkyl, phenoxy, amino, alkylsulfonylamino, phenylsulfonylamino, and carboxy; R.sup.1 is alkyl or amino; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or halogen; X is oxygen or sulfur; Y is hydrogen, halogen, alkoxy, cyano, or nitro, and; Z is halogen; where halogen is bromine, chlorine, fluorine, or iodine, and each alkyl, alkoxy, alkenyl, or alkynyl moiety has one to six carbon atoms.

Herbicidal 3-(bicyclic nitrogen-containing heterocycle)-substituted-1-methyl-6-trifluoromethyluracils, compositions containing them, and methods of using them to control undesired plant growth are disclosed. The herbicidal compounds of the present invention are defined by the following generic structure: ##STR1## in which V is N or C--R.sup.1 ; R is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxycarbonylalkyl, arylalkyl, optionally substituted with halogen, or aminocarbonylalkyl in which the amino nitrogen is substituted with arylalkyl or one or two alkyl; R.sup.1 is hydrogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, or cyano; R.sup.2 is lower alkyl or amino; and X is hydrogen or halogen, with the proviso that each aliphatic component has not more than six carbon atoms.

Herbicidal compounds, compositions containing them, and a method for controlling weeds by application of the compositions are disclosed. The herbicidal compounds are 2-(1-aryl-4-cyano-5-pyrazolylmethyleneiminooxy)alkanoic acid derivatives of the structure: ##STR1## in which R is lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, or lower alkynyl, each optionally substituted with halogen, or CH(R.sup.1)--C(O)--Y--R.sup.2 ; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or lower alkyl; R.sup.2 is one of a variety of substituents; Y is O or NH; Z is lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; and Ar is 3-chloro-5-trifluoromethyl-2-pyridyl, 2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl, or 2,4,6-trichlorophenyl.

When R.sup.10 is a group --NR.sup.14 R.sup.15, in addition to the substituents listed above, R.sup.1 may be alkylcarbonyl, haloalkylcarbonyl, or cycloalkylcarbonyl; and R.sup.2 may be hydrogen, alkylcarbonyl, or cycloalkylcarbonyl.

Herbicidal 1-pyridylpyrazole compounds

This application discloses herbicidal .beta.-pyrazolylacrylic acids, compositions containing them, methods of preparing them, and methods for controlling undesired plant growth by preemergent or postemergent application of the herbicidal compositions to the locus where control is desired. The herbicidal compounds have the formula ##STR1## in which X is chlorine or fluorine, X.sup.1 is hydrogen, chlorine, or fluorine, X.sup.2 is chlorine, fluorine, trifluoromethyl, or ethoxy, and X.sup.3 is hydrogen, chlorine, or fluorine; M is --CH--, --CF--, or --CCl--; and R.sup.1 is --CH.dbd.C(--R.sup.2)--C(.dbd.O)--Z--[S(O).sub.2 ].sub.n --R.sup.3 in which R.sup.2 is hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.3 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, or phenylmethyl optionally substituted with one or more of chlorine, bromine, fluorine, or methyl; Z is --O--, --S-- or --NR.sup.4 ; and n is 0 or 1; provided that when Z is --O-- or --S--, n is 0.

This application discloses hebricidal B-pyrazolylacrylic acids, compositions containing them, methods of preparing them, and methods for controlling undesired plant growth by preemergent or postemergent application of the herbicidal compositions to the locus where control is desired.
