Disclosed is a safer, dustless method for installing an expansion joint sealing system without mechanically grinding substrates to improve adhesion. The method includes locating substrates forming a gap between opposing surfaces of the substrates, preparing the surfaces by wiping with a solvent, and applying a mounting band of sealant to the surfaces. The method includes disposing the sealing system in the gap proximate to or within the mounting band, maintaining the sealing system in the gap until the system expands toward the surfaces, embeds within the mounting band and secures the sealing system in position between opposing surfaces. The method also includes prior to the preparing the surfaces, removing an existing joint sealing system by cutting sealant between the existing system and the substrates, wiping surfaces with solvent, and leaving any deformation or embedded residue from the removed sealing system on or embedded in the surfaces of the substrates.

Safer dustless method for installing a precompressed expansion joint sealing system

An expansion joint sealing system includes a core body having an EMP, EMI, RFI, electronic surveillance and/or EMR shielding/barrier material introduced in the core body as at least one of a component or layer, disposed on the core body as a coating or wrapping, or disposed beneath the core body. The core body with the shielding/barrier material is configured to expand and contract when compressed between substrates forming an expansion joint to accommodate movement of the substrates and maintain a seal of the expansion joint.

Expansion joint sealing system having shielding properties

A fire resistant tunnel expansion joint system for installation between substrates of a tunnel. The system includes a fire protection barrier applied at a predetermined thickness to the substrates and a fire resistant tunnel expansion joint. The tunnel expansion joint includes a core and a fire retardant infused into the core. The core is configured to define a profile to facilitate the compression of the tunnel expansion joint when installed between the substrates. The fire protection barrier and the fire resistant tunnel expansion joint are each capable of withstanding exposure to a temperature of at least about 540&#xb0; C. or greater for about five minutes.

Fire resistant expansion joint systems

A fire and/or water resistant expansion joint system for installation between substrates of a tunnel. The system includes a fire resistant coating applied at a predetermined thickness to achieve a substantially uniform layer on the substrates and a fire and water resistant expansion joint. The expansion joint includes a core having an edge, wherein the substantially uniform layer of the coating extends along the substrates of the tunnel to the edge of the core, and a fire retardant infused into the core. The core is configured to facilitate the compression of the expansion joint system when installed between the substrates. The coating and the fire and water resistant expansion joint are each capable of withstanding exposure to a temperature of at least about 540&#xb0; C. or greater for about five minutes.

Water and/or fire resistant tunnel expansion joint systems

An expansion joint system comprises a core; and a fire retardant included in the core in an amount effective to pass testing mandated by UL 2079. The core with the fire retardant is configured to facilitate compression of the expansion joint system when installed between substrates by repeatedly expanding and contracting to accommodate movement of the substrates; and the core with the fire retardant included therein is configured to pass the testing mandated by UL 2079.

Fire and/or water resistant expansion joint system

A fire and water resistant, integrated wall and roof expansion joint seal system includes an expansion joint seal for a structure. The seal includes a central portion having an underside and at least one central chamber disposed around a centerline, a first flange portion extending outwardly from the centerline and a second flange portion extending outwardly from the centerline in a direction opposite the first flange portion. The system further includes a joint closure. The joint closure includes a core and a layer of a water resistant material disposed on the core. The joint closure further includes an end portion configured to match and integrate with the underside of the central portion to form the watertight, integrated wall and roof expansion joint seal system. A fire retardant material is included in the core in an amount effective to pass testing mandated by UL 2079, and the core with the fire retardant material therein is configured to facilitate compression of the core when installed between the first substrate and the second substrate by repeatedly expanding and contracting to accommodate movement of the first substrate and the second substrate; and the core with the fire retardant material included therein is configured to pass the testing mandated by UL 2079. Movement of one or both of the first substrate and the second substrate causes a response in the central portion to maintain the seal.

Fire and water resistant, integrated wall and roof expansion joint seal system

A fire and/or water resistant expansion joint system for installation into a building joint in vertical and horizontal configurations is designed such that it can be used for either an inside or outside corner. The system comprises a core having a fire retardant therein. A layer of a water resistant material is disposed on the core to facilitate the compression of the expansion joint system when installed between substrates. The system can be delivered to a job site in a pre-compressed state ready for installation into the building joint.

Water and/or fire resistant expansion joint system

An expansion joint system includes a cover plate; a spline attached to the cover plate; and a core having a fire retardant material included therein in an amount effective to pass testing mandated by UL 2079. The spline depends from the cover plate and is configured to be positioned in a gap between substrates such that the cover plate overlies the gap. The core is compressible between a first face of the spline and one of the substrates and is compressible between a second face of the spline and the other of the substrates, and the expansion joint system is configured to facilitate compression of the core when installed between the substrates by repeatedly expanding and contracting to accommodate movement of the substrates; and the core with the fire retardant material included therein is configured to pass the testing mandated by UL 2079.

Fire and/or water resistant expansion and seismic joint system

An expansion joint system includes a cover plate; a spline attached to the cover plate; and foam having a fire retardant material included therein in an amount effective to pass testing mandated by UL 2079. The spline depends from the cover plate and is configured to be positioned in a gap between substrates such that the cover plate overlies the gap. The foam is compressible between a first face of the spline and one of the substrates and the foam is compressible between a second face of the spline and the other of the substrates, and the expansion joint system is configured to facilitate compression of the foam when installed between the substrates by repeatedly expanding and contracting to accommodate movement of the substrates; and the foam with the fire retardant material included therein is configured to pass the testing mandated by UL 2079.

A water resistant expansion joint system includes foam, which has been formed into a desired shape by at least one of stamping, cutting, molding and die-cutting; and a layer of an elastomer disposed on the foam. The layer of the elastomer facilitates compression of the water resistant expansion joint system when installed between substrates. The desired shape of the foam includes an angle, and the water resistant expansion joint system is angled around a corner and accommodates thermal and seismic movement in the system by expanding and contracting, and creates a waterproof seal around the corner upon expansion of the foam between the substrates.

Method of making a water resistant expansion joint system

An expansion joint system includes: a core; and water resistant coating on the core. The core and the water resistant coating forming an elongated section, the elongated section configured to be oriented between substrates. The expansion joint system further includes a termination section located at one end of the elongated section and comprising a flared end forming an angle with the elongated section and configured to direct fluid and/or particles and/or solvents away from the expansion joint system.

Fire resistant tunnel expansion joint systems

A water resistant expansion joint system for installation into a building joint in vertical and horizontal configurations is designed such that it can be used for either an inside or outside corner. According to an aspect, the system comprises open celled foam having a water-based acrylic chemistry infused therein. A layer of an elastomer is disposed on the open celled foam and is tooled to define a profile to facilitate the compression of the expansion joint system when installed between coplanar substrates. The system is delivered to a job site in a pre-compressed state ready for installation into the building joint.
