A container for materials having volatile components is constructed to have a substantial transparency. The container includes a tubular housing having first and second closing structures at opposite ends. The housing is formed as a laminate having a relatively thin inner lining of high barrier amorphous nylon for contacting the material having a volatile component and an outer sleeve of low barrier plastic, such as polyethylene teraphthalate. The container is specifically adapted for viscous caulking compounds wherein the first closing structure is an end wall, nozzle and snout assembly and wherein the second closing structure is defined by a movable piston slideably received in the housing interior.

Laminated materials container

A container for viscous materials having volatile components is constructed to have a substantial transparency. The container includes a tubular housing having first and second closing structures at opposite ends. The housing may be entirely constructed of amorphous nylon, but preferably is formed as a laminate having a relatively thin inner lining of high barrier amorphous nylon and an outer sleeve of low barrier plastic, such as polyethylene teraphthalate. The container is adapted for caulking compounds wherein the first closing structure is an end wall, nozzle and snout assembly and wherein the second closing structure is defined by a movable piston slideably received in the housing interior. The transparent side wall of the housing and the snout are indexed whereby the snout is severed at a desired location, which determines the outlet size to inform the user of the length of the caulking bead that may be obtained from the contents remaining in the housing as shown by the position of the piston relative to the side wall indexing.

A product for the building industry includes a container having opposed transparent sidewall portions and a transparent caulking compound contained therein so that the appearance of a substrate surface with the caulking compound may be previewed before actual application of the caulk. A dispensing nozzle is provided at a downstream end and has a resealable cap. The container has a flexible sidewall that is flattened at an upstream end to form a region of reduced thickness so that a mass of caulking compound therein has a flattened configuration with this mass confined between the facing transparent sidewall portions. Preferably the entire sidewall is transparent and has index markings correlated to available bead length of the caulk remaining in the container. The flexible sidewall permits manual dispensing and allows a crease to be made thereby forming a preview packet.

The transparent side wall of the housing and the snout are indexed whereby the snout is severed at a desired location, which determines the outlet size, and the side wall indexing is correlated to outlet size to inform the user of the length of the caulking bead that may be obtained from the contents remaining in the housing as shown by the position of the piston relative to the side wall indexing.
