A system and method for translating a 2D image to a 3D image is provided. A 2D image having pixels grouped into tiles is obtained. Contour lines associated with an altitude value are located on the 2D image. The altitude values are determined. Each tile in the 2D image is represented using at least one voxel. A height map of the voxels is generated based on the contour lines and altitude values as a base layer for a 3D image. A terrain type of each of the voxels of the 3D image is determined and objects are placed in the 3D image. The 3D image is output.

System and method for translating a 2D image to a 3D image

A system and method for translating a 3D image into a 2D image is provided. A 3D image of voxels and properties associated with the voxels is analyzed. Each of the voxels in the 3D image is scaled to match a size of an output tile for a 2D image. Colors are added to the 2D image based on the properties of the voxels. Contour lines are added to the 2D image based on changes in altitude represented by the 3D image. The 2D image is output.

One embodiment provides a method for facilitating real-world interaction with virtual reality. During operation, the system receives, by a computing device from a virtual reality device associated with a user, instructions to configure physical components, wherein for a first physical component at a first location, the instructions indicate a type and an orientation, and wherein for a second physical component located at a second location, the instructions indicate a type, a length of extension, and an angle. The system executes, by a pose-adjusting unit, the instructions, which involves: physically moving the first physical component to the indicated orientation at the first location; physically extending the second physical component from the second location by the indicated length; and physically rotating the extended second physical component by the indicated angle. The system renders, on the virtual reality device, the configured physical components.

A computer-implemented system and method for providing a data rerepresentation is provided. A representation of data from a first application is identified and a rerepresentation of the data from the first application is generated. The rerepresentation includes one of a modification format rerepresentation that changes a presentation of the data and a projection format rerepresentation that provides one of more or less data in the rerepresentation than the first application by overlaying at least a portion of the data from the first application over data from a second application using ancillary data identified from the data of the first application or data from a separate application. Actions from a user are received within the rerepresentation and are applied to the data of the representation from the first application.

A relevance score is determined for that content pointer by calculating a similarity between the user words and the content pointer words. The content pointers are ranked based on the relevance score. A threshold is applied to select the content pointers and those content pointers that satisfy the threshold are selected as the content pointers most relevant to the user.

One embodiment provides a system to facilitate directed reading of a selected portion of an original document by a recipient. During operation, the system creates a transfer document based at least on the original document and the selected portion. The transfer document, when viewed by the recipient, enables the following operations: opening the transfer document to the selected portion without requiring manual navigation to the selected portion, highlighting the selected portion, obscuring a context surrounding the selected portion based at least on a distance metric from the selected portion, and directly navigating from one highlighted portion to another highlighted portion in the transfer document without requiring manual navigation within obscured contexts. After the system creates the transfer document, it sends the transfer document to the recipient.

A system and method for content tagging and distribution through email are provided. A user-to-tag record including content tags, each associated with one or more users, is maintained. An incoming email message with a tag address is received. The tag address is processed to identify a content tag, which is applied to the user-to-tag record. Users associated with the identified content tag are determined. The incoming email message is provided to the associated users.

A system is provided to facilitate tag-based organization of documents. During operation, the system receives an original user query. The system extends the query to include documents with an IN-tag and exclude documents with an OUT-tag.
