A headgear fitting and accessory system is disclosed for use with headgear having a forward portion, a rearward portion, two lateral portions, a continuous lower rim and an upper crown. The headgear fitting and accessory system includes a flexible pad configured to be positioned within the interior of the headgear. The pad has a lower ring-forming portion configured for placement adjacent the headgear lower rim. The pad may incorporate one or more suspension straps extending from the lower ring-forming portion and configured for placement adjacent the headgear upper crown. The pad may also be provided with one or more sizing flaps pivotally connected to the lower ring-forming portion and configured for placement between a folded position wherein the sizing flaps are folded between the ring-forming portion and the headgear, and an unfolded position wherein the sizing flaps are not folded between the ring-forming portion and the headgear. One or more stays are provided which are configured for mounting to the headgear and for releasably engaging the pad. The stays allow the pad to be secured within the head gear and permit adjustment of the suspension straps, if present. A retention strap and strap retainer arrangement may also be added to provide a closed loop, non-buckling retention system that can be adjusted to fit heads of different size without breaking the closed loop.

Headgear fitting and accessory system

An equestrian show helmet includes an impact resistant outer helmet shell formed to cover a wearer's head. The helmet shell has an upper dome-shaped portion and a lower rim extending from a forward portion of the dome, thence rearwardly to a pair of lateral side portions of the dome, and thence further rearwardly and downwardly to a rear portion of the dome wherein the rim is at its lowest point. A brim extends forwardly from the lower rim at the forward portion of the dome. A protective inner helmet liner is mounted within the dome portion of the helmet shell. The helmet liner has an upper dome-shaped portion that nests within the helmet shell, and a lower rim located substantially proximal to and extending substantially parallel with the helmet shell lower rim. A first vent aperture is formed in the helmet shell at a central top portion of the helmet shell dome. A second vent aperture is formed in the helmet liner at a central top portion thereof which is adjacent to the first vent aperture. A venting device is mounted to cover the first vent aperture on the helmet shell and has a raised button-shaped appearance. The helmet shell dome, the brim and the venting device are covered with velvet or a velvet-like decorative material, and a decorative satin-like covering is mounted to the inside of the helmet liner. A chin strap harness is mounted on the helmet adjacent the rim portions of the helmet shell and helmet liner.

Equestrian helmet

A bicycle helmet and bicycle helmet molding process provide an impact attenuating bicycle helmet/shell having the advantages of low cost, ease of manufacture, as well as ruggedness and durability. In preferred embodiments, a shell having inner and outer walls defining a sealable cavity is provided and an access hatch is formed in the outer wall. The cavity is fully or partially filled through the access hatch with an impact attenuating material. The helmet is treated if necessary to cause the impact attenuating material to harden or fuse or otherwise remain within the sealable cavity, and a plug is used to close the access hatch, thus providing a superior bicycle helmet/shell wherein the impact attenuating material is trapped within the shell portion of the product.
