A process for making a graft propylene copolymer in which a propylene polymer, selected from the group consisting of propylene homopolymers and propylene copolymers, is contacted with a polymerizable, unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid derivative in the presence of a coagent, said coagent selected from the group consisting of a first compound having the structural formula ##STR1## where R is a hydrocarbyl or a radical containing at least one atom of oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon; R.sup.1 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl or aryl; and x is an integer of 1 to 4, and a second compound having the structural formula ##STR2## where R' is a hydrocarbyl or a radical containing at least one atom of oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon; R.sup.2 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.1 2 alkyl or aryl; and y is an integer of 2 to 4, and a free radical generating compound. This contact occurs at a temperature above both the melting point of the propylene polymer and the decomposition temperature of the free radical generating compound.

Process for making graft propylene polymers

A process for making a graft propylene copolymer in which a propylene polymer, selected from the group consisting of propylene homopolymers and propylene copolymers, is contacted with a polymerizable, unsaturated carboxylic acid or acid derivative in the presence of a coagent, having the structural formula (CH.sub.2 .dbd.CR.sup.1 CR.sup.2 R.sup.3.sub.x R, where R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are the same or different and are hydrogen, hydrocarbyl, halogen or a heterocyclic radical; x is an integer of 2 to 4; and R is a radical containing at least one atom of oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, phosphorus or silicon having a valence equal to the value of x, and a free radical generating compound. This contact occurs at a temperature above both the melting point of the propylene polymer and the decomposition temperature of the free radical generating compound.

A process for preparing an ethylene-unsaturated polycarboxylic graft copolymer is disclosed. In this process an ethylene polymer having terminal double bond functionality is contacted with an unsaturated polycarboxylic compound in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of an organic peroxide.

Process for preparing an ethylene-unsaturated polycarboxylic compound

Modified ethylene/n-butyl acrylate copolymers obtained by grafting a half-ester of maleic acid onto a randomly copolymerized ethylene/n-butyl acrylate backbone are provided. The carboxylic functionalized polymers of the invention exhibit superior adhesion to non-polar substrates. They are particularly effective for adhering metals.

Modified ethylene/n-butyl acrylate copolymers having improved adhesion

An improved process for crystallizing polymer subjected to temperature rising elution fractionation is provided. The process improves the separation of the polymer species upon elution and significantly reduces 'tailing' typically observed with such fractionated species. The improvements consists of crystallizing the polymer from a dilute polymer solution outside of the column and in the absence of column packing material. Only after crystallization is the polymer combined with the column packing material. This can be accomplished by either dry-blending or by slurrying.

Process for fractionating polymers

A composition comprising a first ethylene polymer having a density in the range of between about 0.940 and about 0.960; a second ethylene polymer having a melt index of at least about 20; and an organic peroxide is disclosed. An electrical conduit which includes an electrical conductor and an electrical conductor covering, the covering comprising the above-described composition of the present invention is also set forth. In addition, a process for producing the electrical conduit of the present invention is described. In this process an electrical conductor, i.e., a wire or a cable, is coated with a molten extrudate of the polymeric composition of the present invention.
