Interpenetrating polymer networks (IPN's), composed of polyisoprene (PI) and polyurethane (PU), together with a process for their preparation and their use in the manufacture of medical devices, such as catheters and catheter balloons, are disclosed. Both components are elastomers. The PI component is chemically crosslinked. The PU component is crystallizable and contains only physical crosslinks. The IPN's have glass transition temperatures in the range of from -65.degree. C. to -40.degree. C.

Bicompatible polyisoprene-polyurethane interpenetrating polymer network

Hydroxyl group-containing triglyceride oils are effective nucleating agents for poly(ethylene terephthalate) and provide improved crystallization properties. The hydroxyl group-containing triglyceride oil may be combined with a conventional organic acid metal salt nucleating agent. By covalently bonding the hydroxyl group-containing triglyceride oil with a metal carboxylate, improved crystallization properties are obtained.

Chemically blended thermoplastic interpenetrating polymer network compositions, of improved physical and mechanical properties as compared to their mechanically blended counterparts, are produced by forming a solution or mixture of polymeric components and polymerizing in situ, with materials capable of forming physical crosslinks, through mechanisms including block copolymers, ionomeric crosslinking and the incorporation of crystalline regions in semicrystalline homopolymers. The resultant products are in the nature of thermoset materials at room temperature but become thermoplastic at elevated temperatures.
