Structure for maintaining a sliding window sash at an intended position with respect to a frame within which the sash moves. The structure serves to retain the sash at a position along an axis generally perpendicular to a plane defined by the window frame. An inwardly facing surface of the frame has formed therein an elongated trough which extends generally parallel to a direction of intended sliding movement of the sash. A blade is mounted within a cavity in the sash and disposed for pivotal movement between a first position, wherein the blade is retracted within an outwardly facing surface of the sash, and a second position, wherein the blade is extended through the outwardly facing surface of the sash into the trough defined within the inwardly facing surface of the frame. The blade is normally biased to the second position, but it can volitionally be retracted to the first position to enable tilting inward or removal of the sash from the window frame.

A window jamb component assembly mountable in the jambs of a double hung window for cooperative engagement with the sash assemblies thereof. The component assembly includes a longitudinally elongated jamb liner having upper and lower segments comprising a pair of channel guides spaced apart by a profiled web. The profiled web defines sequentially aligned recesses, namely an inner weather stripping recess, a jamb filler recess and an outer weather stripping recess. A jamb filler, held by the jamb filler recess, provides a uniformly clad surface for the jambs to match the appearance of the trim of the double hung window. Frame weather stripping for sealingly engaging the sash assemblies of the double hung window is deployed and held in the inner and outer weather stripping recesses. Such assembly provides a visually pleasing finish for the window jambs, while providing improved cooperation between the window jamb and the sash assemblies.

A window assembly includes a housing and a winder rotatably connected to the housing, where the winder includes a slot. The housing is mounted on a window sash. A flexible filament is disposed within the slot and is operative with the winder to withdraw window sash latches from a window frame so that the window sash can be removed from the frame.

A window jamb component assembly mountable in a jamb of a double hung window for cooperative engagement with the sash assemblies thereof. The component assembly includes a longitudinally elongated jamb liner having upper and lower segments and includes a pair of channel guides spaced apart by a profiled web. The profiled web defines sequentially aligned recesses, namely an inner weather stripping recess, a jamb filler recess and an outer weather stripping recess. A jamb filler, held by the jamb filler recess, provides a uniformly clad surface to match the appearance of the trim of the double hung window by covering one of the weather stripping recesses of each segment. Frame weather stripping for sealingly engaging the sash assemblies of the double hung window is deployed and held in the inner and outer weather stripping recesses not covered by the jamb filler. Such assembly provides a visually pleasing finish, while providing improved cooperation between the window jamb and the sash assemblies.

Window jamb component assembly

Apparatus for use in integrating multiple glass panels into a latticed-type structure (e.g., a door or window). The structure is a light-admitting, unified entity and includes a muntin which is positioned between two adjacent, coplanar glass panels. The Muntin carries a flange which is generally parallel to a plane defined by the glass panels, the flange being in engagement with first sides of the panels. A cap is positioned overlying the Muntin on a side of the glass panels opposite that on which the flange is disposed. The cap is positioned immediately adjacent, and in engagement with, second sides of the glass panels. Structure is provided to secure the cap to the Muntin in a manner such that visible surfaces of the cap and the flange are not marred. Securement is effected in a manner so that the glass panels are sandwiched between the cap and flange.

Glazing system

A method for employment in securing together wood components whcih are intended to be mated one to another. The method includes a first step of forming slots in engaged surfaces of the wood components, the slots being registered one with another when the components are at intended relative positions. Consequently, the slots are, when the components are engaged in such a manner, aligned along an axis. An attachment fitting is provided to effect the securing function. Such a fitting would, typically, include an elongated spanning member having a central portion and first and second distal portions. Each distal portion carries a resilient barb, the barb extending outwardly and toward the central portion of the spanning member. In effecting securement of the wood components, the components are disengaged from one another, and the first distal portion of the attachment device is inserted into the slot of one of the wood components. The second wood component is, thereafter, brought toward the first wood component so that the second distal portion of the spanning member enters the slot formed in the second wood component. The components are, thereafter, urged together to be held in a mated configuration by the barbs of the attachment fitting.

Wood component attachment method

Apparatus for mounting a sliding door for horizontal movement in a frame which has an upwardly-extending upper track and an upwardly-extending lower track which comprises a horizontally-elongated rib defining a generally vertically-oriented plane. The apparatus includes a sliding door panel which includes upper and lower generally horizontal rail members. Means are provided to mount the sliding door panel to the upper track for horizontal movement along the track. The apparatus also includes an extruded elongated element suspended from the lower generally-horizontal rail member of the sliding door panel. The elongated element is disposed for free reciprocating vertical movement relative to the lower generally-horizontal rail member. The elongated element is provided with a length substantially the full length of the sliding door panel. The element is also provided with a slot which is formed in a bottom surface of the element. The slot extends substantially the full length of the bottom surface of the elongated element, the slot receiving the horizontally-elongated rib defined by the lower track therein.
