Embodiments are directed towards analyzing content, such as Timed Text data that separately accompanies program content, to detect a future program. When a future program is detected in the content, a tag or other data structure is generated with identifying information for the future program. The tag is stored and later used to schedule a recording for the future program. An electronic program guide may be analyzed based on the identifying information in the tag to determine if the future program has been added to the electronic program guide.

Set future video recordings from audiovisual content

Embodiments are directed toward analyzing images of cables or electronic devices to augment those images with information relating to the installation or troubleshooting of such cables and electronic devices. The images are analyzed to determine non-text characteristics of a connector of the cable or non-text characteristics of at least one port on the electronic device. These non-text characteristics can be compared with non-text characteristics of known connectors or ports to determine a type of the connector or a type of the ports on the electronic device. The images are then modified or overlaid with information identifying the type of connector or port.

Augmented reality installation/troubleshooting assistance

Embodiments are directed toward analyzing images of cables and electronic devices to augment those images with information relating to the installation or troubleshooting of such cables and electronic devices. The images are analyzed to determine non-text characteristics of a connector of the cable and non-text characteristics of at least one port on the electronic device. These non-text characteristics can be compared to each other to determine if the connector is compatible with one of the ports on the electronic device. Similarly, these non-text characteristics can be compared with non-text characteristics of known connectors and ports to determine a type of the connector and a type of the ports on the electronic device, which is used to determine their compatibility. The images are then modified or overlaid with information identifying the type of connector or port, their compatibility or lack thereof, or instructions for connecting the compatible connector and port.

Recommend future video recordings for users from audiovisual content

Disclosed are methods, systems, and non-transitory, machine-readable media that facilitate personalized home automation control based at least in part on individualized protocol. First sensor data may be received, and may be indicative of an identified individual that is sensed by a set of sensors. A particularized pattern of activity of individual may be determined. Second sensor data may be indicative of an unidentified individual. Identification rules specified by a stored protocol record may include criteria for identifying sensed individuals. The second sensor data and/or identification information from another data source may be analyzed to identify the unidentified individual. A home automation rule may be determined based on the particularized pattern, which rule may include an anticipation of an operational setting of a home automation device. The home automation device may be instructed based on the determined home automation rule.

Personalized home automation control based on individualized profiling

Presented herein is a method of blocking user-selected media content, such as, for example, audio and/or video content. In the method, at least one media content stream is presented to a user, wherein the at least one media content stream includes multiple showings of an identifiable contiguous segment of media content. One example of such a segment may be a commercial or advertisement. While presenting a current showing of the segment of media content to the user, a command is received from a user to block the segment of media content from presentation to the user. In response to receiving the command, information identifying the segment of media content is generated. The at least one media content stream is analyzed using the information to detect subsequent showings of the segment of media content. Presentation of at least one of the subsequent showings of the segment of media content is prevented when detected in the at least one media content stream.

User-selected media content blocking

Systems and devices for controlling at least one entertainment device include at least one remote in two-way communication with a base device. Memories of the remote and the base device are operable to store substantially the same data as the other such that if the remote or base device fails, data in the memory of the non-failing device is loaded into a memory of a replacement device. A memory of a second remote may also store the same data as the remote memory such that if either the first remote or the base device fails, data in the memory of the second remote is loaded into a memory of a replacement device.

Two-way communication for control of an entertainment device

Presented herein is a method of recording user-selected interstitial media content, such as a television commercial. In the method, a media content stream is presented to a user. The media content stream includes an interstitial segment within a media content segment, such as a television program. In a media content segment listing, such as an electronic program guide, the media content segment is listed, but the interstitial segment is not. While the media content stream is presented, the stream is buffered. During or after the interstitial segment is being presented to the user, a command is received from the user to record the interstitial segment. In response to the command, beginning and ending points of the buffered interstitial segment are identified. The buffered interstitial segment is stored as a persistent recording based on the starting and ending points, and the persistent recording is distinguished from the media content segment.
