A method and apparatus for providing an aggregated account metering system to a computer network service provider resulting in comprehensive detailed subscriber accounting records. Accounting start-stop event data is retrieved from accounting servers. The accounting records are parsed to a first adapter where they are then published on an active information bus. Network flow data is collected from routers throughout the packet switch network environment by network flow collectors. The collectors serve to aggregate and, optionally, filter the flow data. The network flow data is parsed to a second adapter where it is then published on an active information bus. An integrating accounting adapter subscribes to and collects accounting event data and network flow data and correlates this data into a detailed call record that is formatted as desired.

Aggregation of user usage data for accounting systems in dynamically configured networks

A method for providing remote management and maintenance of a node or service within a data communications network that is activated by the data communications network management system's receipt of signals of an abnormal condition at a node or service or failure to receive operational status signals from a node or service. A control adapter running on a node within a Point of Presence is started. The control adapter is capable of starting all service adapters associated with all services running on the node. Operational status signals and abnormal condition signals are transmitted from the control adapter and service adapters on to an information bus. If a network management control host receives abnormal condition signals, notification is sent to a remote system administrator that alerts of an error experienced by a node or service. If a network management control host fails to receive operational status signals, notification is sent to a remote system administrator that no signals are being received from a node or service. The system administrator can take appropriate remote action to rectify the problem. The integration of a manually started node or service into a data communications network management system is achieved by manually implementing, at a Point of Presence within a data communications network, a node or service that has an adapter running on it and is in communication with an information bus. The node or service begins signalling operational status upon implementation. These signals are not recognized by network management control hosts. The network management control host transmits signals asking the newly started node or service for identification. The node or service receives the identity request and transmits signals back to the network management control host.

Remote system administration and seamless service integration of a data communication network management system

A method for conveying data communications network management information to an umbrella management system whereby network management information events are published on an information bus and received at a subscribing monitor interface located on the information bus. The monitor interface then converts the network management information events into umbrella management system-useable information and communicates the umbrella management useable information to the umbrella management system. In this manner, the umbrella management system is able to import valuable information pertaining to the devices and services that comprise the overall network. The monitor interface includes an adapter located on the information bus that subscribes to network management information events, a converter that formats the network management information events into data useable by the umbrella management system, and a forwarder that communicates the umbrella management system-useable data to the umbrella management system.

Facility to transmit network management data to an umbrella management system

A method and apparatus for providing management and maintenance to a node within a data communications network and to the composite data communications network. A network management application is started on a host which may be located at a network operation center. The management application is in communication with network nodes and services through adapters. A master daemon located at a node is activated. The master daemon starts a control adapter running on the node and if the control adapter fails the master daemon restarts the control adapter. The control adapter is capable of starting and stopping all services running on the node. Signals are communicated between the management application, the node and the services by way of adapters. Signaling provides for the exchange of useful event data related to the nodes and services running on the nodes.

Managing recovery of service components and notification of service errors and failures

A jig-type fishing lure has a weighted lure body holding a gravity-operated switch that controls the energization of an LED for illuminating fiber optic strands extending from the tail end of the lure body in proximity to a fishhook. A heat shrunk tube in the lure body holds the LED and the adjacent ends of the fiber optic strands.

A network access point for locally processing an access request is configured to include an information bus, an access event publisher, and at least one local cache having at least one user record. The access event publisher publishes at least one network access event on the information bus during the processing of the access request. The first local cache is coupled to and is responsive to the network access event by updating the user record according to information contained by the network access event if the information includes a home access point ID that corresponds to the first local cache. The network access point may be part of a communications system having a mother cache. The mother cache is coupled to the first local cache and includes user records of subscribers supported by the communications system. The first local cache obtains a user record associated with one of the subscribers from the mother cache, if the user record is not stored in the first local cache, in response to a log-on attempt to the network access point by the subscriber.

Distributed architecture allowing local user authentication and authorization

A fishing lure for securing bait includes an elongated upper jaw having a front end and a rear end; an elongated lower jaw having a front end and a rear end and a lower surface; a pivotal connection hinge between the front end of the upper jaw and the front end of the lower jaw; a first row of teeth on an interior surface of the upper jaw; a second row of teeth affixed to an interior surface of the lower jaw, the first row of teeth facing the second row of teeth, wherein bait fish are secured between the first row of teeth and the second row of teeth; a hook connected to the rear end of the lower jaw; and a buoyant element secured to the upper jaw front end to elevate the front end relative to the rear end. The fishing lure preferably additionally includes a keel extending longitudinally along and protruding outwardly from the lower jaw for minimizing lateral drifting of the lure. The fishing lure preferably additionally includes a top half wall attached to the upper jaw forward of the first row of teeth; and a bottom half wall attached to the lower jaw forward of the second row of teeth, where closing the upper jaw to the lower jaw enables the top half wall to cause a closure against the bottom half wall for keeping water from washing the bait out.

Fishing lure

Deep sea fishing lures for adequately securing bait. The lure has a bait housing that includes upper and lower cylindrical half jaws that are pivotally connected at their front ends and biased together by a spring. Inside the upper jaw are at least two rows of teeth one behind the other, and inside the lower jaw are at least two rows of teeth, one behind the other. The upper front row of teeth and the lower front row of teeth are approximately 1/8 inches long. The upper rear row of teeth and the lower rear row of teeth are approximately 1/8 inches long. The teeth can be cone shaped and formed from either plastic or metal. Covers can be inserted next to one of the rows of teeth to change the length of each of the teeth. Using the covers allows the lure to be able to secure thinner pieces of bait fish. The lure includes a wall ahead of the front rows of teeth which prevents water from passing through the interior of the bait housing and washing out bait.
