A connector assembly comprising: electrical contacts (9) spaces apart on an insulative housing block (16), the contacts (9) being interconnected externally of the housing block (16) by webs (7), and the webs (7) being constructed for removal after assembly of the housing block (16) and the electrical contacts (9) to provide fins (27). The fins are to be used to retain the contacts (9) within cavities (40) of a housing (39).

A shielded connector assembly 10 comprises, a terminal block 16 containing electrical contacts 18, a conductive back shell 11, a cable 39 extending through a cable receiving opening 20 of the back shell 11 with corresponding conductors 38 of the cable 39 connected to corresponding contacts 18, a series of passages 32 extend through the terminal block 16, and a corresponding series of vanes 35, 36 on the back shell 11 extend into the passages 35, 36 to separate selected contacts 18 from other contacts 18 in the terminal block 16.

An electrical connector (1), comprising, an insulative body (20) having multiple cavities (21), electrical coaxial plugs (4) in respective cavities (21), coaxial cables (3) extending from the plugs (4) and projecting from an electrical cable (2), insulative covers (37) superimposed on one another and covering the coaxial cables (3), end walls (43) of the covers (37) engaging the electrical cable (2), the plugs (4) extending through front walls (39) of the covers (37) and being received in respective recesses (42), the front walls (39) partially covering the cavities (21) in the body (20), and fingers (28) on the body (20) overlapping respective front walls (39) of each cover (37).

Connector for multiple coaxial cables

A mounting and grounding clamp has opposed members positioned from each other by a bight section. Undulating surfaces of the opposed members are adapted to engage respective surfaces of an insulated wing of a coaxial cable when the clamp is secured thereon via leg members captured by hook members. Contact members of one of the opposed members penetrates the cable wing and electrically engages the shielding material therein.

Apparatus is disclosed for terminating flexible flat electrical cable, including means for transposing selected pairs of adjacent conductors into a vertical orientation for subsequent common termination in a single terminal slot. The transposing means includes conductor pushing blades each of generally inverted U-shaped profile having outwardly divergent bottom surfaces, and a template having profiled channels therein defined by inwardly convergent sidewalls of a prescribed angled configuration. The cable is positioned above the template, and upon downward actuation of the conductor pushing blades against the selected pairs of adjacent conductors, said conductors are made to rotate into a vertical orientation while proceeding deeper into the profiled template channels. A combing member is further disclosed for preorientation of the selected conductor pairs prior to their insertion into the template.

Apparatus for transposing a pair of parallel and adjacent conductors

A latching assembly for a multipiece connector is disclosed, comprising a first body side surface recessed between two edge flanges, and retention protuberances projecting outwardly therefrom; a second body side surface from which a medianly slotted tab projects tangentially for latching over one of the connector body protuberances; and a third body side surface from which a T-shaped cantilever spring finger projects tangentially. The spring finger is adapted to include forward flange means for latching over the first and second side surface profiles, and a longitudinal rib protrusion for projecting into the second side surface tab slot for adding increased lateral stability to the overall assembly.

An improved method for mass termination of pre-stripped flat transmission cable having conductors on closely spaced centers with the connector providing selective programming of grounds within the connector is disclosed. A connector includes three sub-assemblies, namely, a cover, a housing assembly with a plurality of receptacle type contacts and a ground bus mounted therein, and a strain relief member. The present method employs slotted beams to effect a connection between the conductors and grounds of the cable and the terminals and bus bars of the connector. The cable is prepared in a cable stripper to cut the insulation and displace it towards the free end of the cable sufficiently to allow the conductors to be seated in the connector cover. The application tooling then inserts the exposed conductors into the proper alignment slots of the cover while simultaneously trimming them to the correct length. The housing and cover are then assembled to secure the cable in the connector and then the cable folded back upon itself over the cover and a strain relief applied to complete the assembly.
