A filter assembly for a removable dirt separation system is disclosed. The filter assembly includes a wall support attached to a wall of the dirt separation system and a screen panel having a number of screen elements. The filter assembly further includes a filter element which is selectively releasable from the screen panel. The screen panel and filter element can be selectively secured to the wall support. A fine particle separation chamber is at least partially defined by the screen elements and the filter element. A portion of the walls of a dirt cup within the dirt separation system is formed by the filter assembly. A method of operating a filter assembly for a removable dirt separation system is also disclosed.

Filter assembly for a vacuum cleaner

A latch assembly for a removable dirt separation system is disclosed. The latch assembly includes an actuator having an latch opening defined therethrough pivotally mounted to a lid of the dirt separation system. The latch assembly further includes a latch positioned beneath the actuator and having a latching surface which is operable to engage a catch on a vacuum cleaner housing. A latching surface of the latch extends through the latch opening. Moving the actuator in a first direction causes the actuator to disengage the latching surface of the latch from the catch and place the latch assembly in a disengaged position. Moving the latch in the first direction causes the latching surface of the latch to pass through a latch opening defined in the actuator to place the latch assembly in a return position. A method of operating a latch assembly is also disclosed.

Latch assembly

A cleaner for cleaning a surface is provided comprising a main body and a brush assembly for engaging the surface being cleaned. An engaging member on the main body or brush assembly and a retaining portion on the other main body or brush assembly. The engaging member and retaining portion are releasably connected to each other such that the engaging member or retaining portion is accessible for engagement by a user to disengage the engaging member from the retaining portion.

Brush assembly removal device for a floor cleaner

A hand held cleaner is provided with a swiveling nozzle that moves from a position perpendicular to the cleaner body to a position of axial alignment with it. A series of stops are mounted on the swiveling nozzle and cleaner body to limit nozzle swing to these two positions. A reciprocable latch is mounted with the nozzle to engage, selectively, in one of a pair of latching apertures in the cleaner body to lockingly maintain the swiveling nozzle of its stopped positions. The agitator and agitator belt are offset from what would be considered their normal centered relationship to accommodate the swiveling action of the hand held cleaner nozzle.
