Messaging

A higher network sends a base stream of a data stream to a first network node, and sends an enhancement stream of the data stream to a second network node. The first network node transmits the base stream over a multicast channel and the second network node transmits the enhanced stream in synchronism with the transmitted base stream over a unicast channel. Various options are detailed for how this synchronism is achieved, and the second network node need only transmit the higher bit-rate enhancement stream on user request or if network conditions permit. A user equipment receives the base and enhancement streams, combines them, and displays the combined stream to a user at a graphical display interface. Various apparatus, methods, and computer programs are detailed for various nodes and the user equipment.

Layered coded streaming control for unicast/MBMS interaction

In one non-limiting, exemplary embodiment, a method includes: receiving radio resource control signaling with a user equipment, wherein the radio resource control signaling is indicative of at least one frequency sub-band to be measured by the user equipment for a particular cell in a manner transparent to at least one of an interference control scheme and a handover scheme implemented for the cell; performing at least one measurement of the at least one frequency sub-band; and reporting information descriptive of the at least one measurement.

Apparatus, method and computer program product providing extended measurement control signal for handoff measurement under interference coordination

In accordance with aspects of the present invention, a method, apparatus and system are provided for self-optimization of interference coordination in communication systems. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a measurement and reporting subsystem configured to perform measurements regarding a status of the apparatus and to provide a reliability report to a base station as a function thereof. The apparatus is configured to notify a strongest interferer about the status via the reliability report. In another embodiment, the apparatus includes a measurement report handler configured to process a reliability report received from a user equipment and an interference coordination subsystem configured to adjust interference coordination parameters based on the reliability report received from the user equipment.

System and method for self-optimization of interference coordination in communication systems

Methods, apparatus and computer program products perform signal quality measurements for signals from a plurality of cells served by an apparatus, and transmit indications of the signal quality measurements to the apparatus. The signal quality measurements may include CQI measurements. Transmitting may include transmitting indications of the signal quality measurements to a source cell of the apparatus. Other methods, apparatus and computer program products perform signal quality measurements for signals from a plurality of cells served by an apparatus, determine, using at least the signal quality measurements, a frequency band to be used by each of the plurality of cells to transmit a command, and transmit an indication of the frequency band to the apparatus. Variants may include receiving over the frequency band the command from each of the plurality of cells.

An approach is provided for assigning a discontinuous communication interval to a user equipment that is served by a cell associated with a wireless network. The discontinuous communication interval is modified based on speed of the user equipment and size of the cell.

Method and apparatus for setting discontinuous communication interval

A system and method for controlling base stations for multimedia broadcast communications. In one embodiment, a base station includes a reporting subsystem configured to broadcast at least one of a counting report request and a channel quality indictor report request to user equipment in a service area thereof. The reporting subsystem is also configured to process at least one of a counting report and a channel quality indicator report received from the user equipment and provide an activity status report therefrom. The base station also includes a dynamic single frequency network subsystem configured to determine to provide multimedia broadcast and multicast services in the service area thereof as a function of an activity status report from another base station.

Simple distributed coordination among cells to achieve efficient dynamic single-frequency network (SFN) operation

An auxiliary handover message is sent from a target eNB to a UE being handed over from a source eNB. The auxiliary handover message includes a context identifier that is established between the source eNB and the UE, which the source eNB provides to the target eNB during context data exchange when preparing for the handover. The UE uses the context identifier to verify that the auxiliary handover message is valid. Various approaches are detailed for minimizing signaling overhead and minimizing the time the UE must monitor the separate channel for the auxiliary handover message in the event the UE does not properly receive the original handover message from the source eNB. The context identifier may be a random number, a C-RNTI, an eNB-ID, or a token. The auxiliary handover command sent from the target eNB may be the context identifier with or without a copy of the handover command.

An apparatus includes an analyzer configured to collect measurements and statistics from a cell of a plurality of cells, a key generator configured to generate a key indicator based on the measurements and statistics collected from the cell against predetermined conditions or thresholds to identify at least one other cell failing to meet the predetermined conditions or thresholds, and a forbidden neighbor cell list generator configured to automatically generate a forbidden neighbor cell list identifying the at least one other cell failing to meet the predetermined conditions or thresholds and notifying the at least one other cell.

A UE performs pilot measurements over a frequency sub-band of serving cell and adjacent cells based on pilot symbols for used in handover. UE uses channel quality measurement result to adjust frequency sub-band and periodicity of pilot measurement. In interference coordination scheme, UE is classified into cell edge or cell center UE based on channel quality measurement result. For downlink data reception, UE in cell edge is allocated cell edge frequency sub-band and UE in cell center is allocated with cell center frequency sub-band. If UE is in cell edge of the serving cell, UE also performs pilot measurement over cell edge frequency sub-band. If UE is in cell center, UE also performs pilot measurement over cell center frequency sub-band of the serving cell. When UE is located in cell edge, it performs measurement at a higher rate than when it is located in cell center.

Methods and devices are shown for improving an existing route between a first node and a second node in a first ad-hoc network that includes a plurality of nodes, the method and devices selecting based on a predetermined performance criterion or criteria one of a plurality of candidate routes between the first node and the second node, wherein each candidate route includes at least one inter-node link that is not included within the first ad-hoc network and at least one candidate route including multiple inter-node links; initializing, via the existing route, the use of the inter-node links of the selected candidate route; and switching from using the existing route to using the candidate route.

Adaptive routing

A method, terminal device, network element, system and computer program product for controlling discontinuous reception or transmission at a terminal device of a communication network are disclosed. A regular discontinuous reception or transmission cycle of a regular discontinuous reception or transmission scheme is set by using a first control layer, and in addition thereto a shorter temporary discontinuous reception or transmission cycle of an interim discontinuous reception or transmission scheme can be set by using a second control layer. This arrangement provides long discontinuous reception or transmission cycles for power consumption improvements while at the same time ensuring that the network can easily and flexibly shorten these cycles for increased data throughput, if needed.

Method and system for providing interim discontinuous reception/transmission

The present invention is a method for adjusting power consumption in a network system including a first communication device and a second communication device communicating with the first communication device, wherein the method includes the first communication device creating IC operation information related to the operation of a first information processing IC in the first communication device and sending the IC operation information to the second communication device; the second communication device acknowledging the sent IC operation information in whole or in part and sending the acknowledged IC operation information to the first communication device; and the first communication device adjusting the driving frequency and/or the supply voltage of the first information processing IC according to the acknowledged IC operation information.
