An auxiliary module for connecting to an injector for dispensing a medical substance comprises a housing having a retaining device, and a receiving unit having a retaining element, wherein the receiving unit is movable relative to the housing. The auxiliary module includes a retaining configuration, in which the receiving unit is immovably retained in the housing by the retaining device, and in which the retaining element can cooperate with the injector in such a way that the injector is retained by the receiving unit and the retaining element is locked by the housing. The auxiliary module also includes a release configuration, in which the receiving unit is released from the retaining device and the injector is released from the retaining element. The auxiliary module can be adjusted from the retaining configuration into the release configuration, and back again, by an adjustment movement of the receiving unit.

Connection mechanism for an auxiliary module

Implementations relate to an electronic add-on module releasably attachable to an injection device prior to injection, a sensor element for detecting a state or process in the injection device, a processor element for evaluating and/or processing a signal of the sensor element, and an energy store for supplying the processor element with energy. The add-on module has a first module part, which is connectable along its longitudinal axis to the injection device in an axially fixed manner by means of a holding mechanism. A second module part is movable for a damped relative movement, such as a deceleration or braking movement, by a delay stoke with respect to the first module part connected to the injection device. By damping a relative movement between two module parts, the force transmission between the add-on module and the injection device is controlled and a maximum force surge is limited to the injection device.

Electronic add-on module for injection devices

A flexible and reliable delivery state estimator or evaluator is provided for a drug delivery device. The proposed delivery status estimation architecture includes a position sensor that provides a continuous position sensor signal indicative of a current position of a component of the delivery device movable continuously from a first to a second component position, as well as a position discriminator that redefines the continuous position sensor signal to generate an approximate binary input signal on behalf of a state estimator. The discriminator absorbs any difficulty that may arise from a limited reproducibility or enhanced variability of the original continuous sensor signal, specifically including a user-originated signal spread in a movement of a needle protection sleeve of the delivery device.

Injection device add-on

A medical monitoring system increases patient safety and confidence. The system has a disposable injection device with a container holder for holding a container such as a cartridge or a syringe with a liquid drug for subcutaneous injection. The system includes a passive machine-readable tag mounted to a device housing of the injection device and coding or storing drug information about the drug in the container. The system also includes an electronic module or supplemental device releasably attachable to the injection device. The electronic module comprises injection status sensing means for monitoring a status of an injection or for tracking progress of a medication event, as well as a tag reader different from the sensing means for reading drug information from the machine-readable tag. The system includes a drug status signaling or interfacing unit for signaling to a user a drug status based on, or derived from, the drug information.

Monitoring of disposable injection devices

Shown is a simple, reliable manner of monitoring a process of expelling a variable dose of medicament from an injection device by analyzing mechanical feedback of the injection device with reduced requirements on signal data memory space and processing power. Specific measurand and mechanical user feedback sensor configurations enable sensor signal data from which individual dosage units of expelled drug are identifiable at moderate sampling rates. Preferred configurations include a force sensor adapted to measure an axial force component as applied to the device by a user pressing a proximal injection button, and a direction sensor adapted to measure an azimuth angle of an orientation of the device. The specific measurands, or process quantities observed, relate to feedback means of the device including a resilient element that produces a number of successive mechanical feedback events proportionate to a dose or quantity of drug expelled from a medicament reservoir.

Monitoring an injection process

The invention is concerned with a simple and reliable manner of monitoring a handling or use of injection devices by means of a reusable electronic module. According to the invention, a displacement of a component of the injection device between an initial position and an intermediate position, and a subsequent displacement of the same component between the intermediate position and a final position essentially identical with the initial position is observed by one and the same sensor comprised in an electronic module separate from the injection device. A status or state of the injection device is then inferred in the electronic module from these two observations by way of digitally processing sensor output information. The invention thus enables secure, easy and cost-effective operation of components, devices and systems for the generation, collection and distribution of data associated with the handling or use of the injection devices.

Electronic module for monitoring injection devices

The invention relates to an electronic add-on module which is fitted releasably onto an automatic injection appliance before the start of injection. The add-on module comprises a force sensor for measuring a time-variable axial force component exerted on or transmitted to the attached add-on module by the injection appliance during an injection procedure. The add-on module also comprises a grip or a preferred grip position for gripping and holding the add-on module and the inserted injection appliance. The add-on module can additionally have a microphone for detection of acoustic signals. A state of the injection appliance can be determined by the add-on module solely on the basis of measurements of the axial force sensor, optionally supplemented by microphone measurements. The invention thus affords a straightforward and cost-effective way of monitoring or controlling the correct performance of an injection procedure carried out with an automatic injection appliance.

Electronic add-on module for injection appliances

The invention relates to a device for administering a medicament, comprising a first appliance part; at least a second appliance part, which can be moved from a first state to at least a second state relative to the first appliance part before, during or after administration; an activatable identification element having a carrier; a RFID circuit with an antenna port and at least one signal terminal; at least one sensor which comprises at least two operatively linked sensor elements; at least one sensor element being connected to the at least one signal terminal, as well as an antenna which is connected to the antenna port. According to the invention, the carrier receives or connects the RFID circuit, the antenna and the at least one sensor element, wherein at least a region or section of the carrier is connected at least to the first appliance part.
