A cordless telephone system comprising a handset and a base station. Each of the handset and the base station contains a transmitter and a receiver, preferably operating on different frequencies. At least one of the handset and the base station controls frequency hopping based on a signal received from the other of the handset and the base station. In a preferred embodiment, The handset transmitter transmits to the base station a combined signal including a digital portion and an analog portion. The base station separates the combined signal to recover the digital portion and the analog portion and employs the analog portion to convey communicated information and the digital portion to control frequency hopping in the transmitter of the base station. The handset transmitter provides a local oscillator signal to the handset receiver to enable frequency conversion in the handset receiver. The base station transmits to the handset a similar combined signal which is similarly separated and employed by the handset.

Methods and apparatus for control of frequency hopping in an analog cordless telephone

A signal distribution network in which signals are distributed via a primary signal distribution path. Television signals are transmitted in a first frequency band, telephone signals are transmitted in a second frequency band, and data signals are transmitted in a third frequency band. Bidirectional terminal adapters are connected to each endpoint of the primary signal distribution path. The terminal adapters connect to end user devices which receive signals from the primary signal distribution path. In addition, the terminal adapters connect to signal sources which provide the signals to be distributed via the primary signal distribution path. In one embodiment, television signals received from a CATV television network are received by a television distribution module. The television distribution module has one or more tuner/converters each of which tune to a desired channel, modulate the desired channel onto at least one predetermined distribution channel, and provide the signal to the primary signal distribution path via the predetermined distribution channel. The total bandwidth of the primary signal distribution path can be substantially lower than the total bandwidth of the communication links providing the sources of signals entering the network. As such, the primary signal distribution path may be implemented utilizing a single pair of wires.

Systems and methods for enhancing the linearity of a modulator by filtering a set of frequency components from the modulator output to develop a modulator feedback signal. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a diplexer separates the output of a balanced modulator into a first frequency spectrum and a second frequency spectrum. The first frequency spectrum contains the modulated output signal, and the second frequency spectrum contains the modulator feedback signal which is combined with the modulating signal to enhance the linearity of the modulator.

An electrical circuit is disclosed that is capable of adjusting the peak-to-peak voltage of a binary signal symmetrically around a reference voltage, without human intervention and without introducing a transient response into the signal. One embodiment of the circuit comprises a current source, five resistors and two diodes, create an intelligent 'voltage divider' that adjusts the peak-to-peak voltage of a binary signal symmetrically around a reference voltage.

Shaping and level adjusting filter

A circuit for maintaining the magnitude of a radio frequency (RF) signal at least one predetermined level employs a detection circuit coupled to an RF signal generator by a four port coupling device. In one embodiment of the present invention, an impedance inverter in series with a diode is connected between the load termination of the coupling device and ground. The series combination of the impedance inverter and diode approximates a short circuit as the output signal power approaches a predetermined low amplitude threshold and approximates an open circuit as the output signal power approaches a predetermined upper amplitude threshold so that gain is provided to signals received by the detection circuit below a first amplitude level and attenuation is provided to signals received by the detection circuit above a second amplitude level. The transmit level detection circuit of the present invention requires substantially less power than conventional circuits, so that only 1%-2% or less of the output of the amplifier need be diverted for reliable operation, even for RF output power levels on the order of a fraction of a milliwatt.
