A method and apparatus are presented for non-invasive determination of blood clotting related and blood circulation related parameters of a mammal. At least one stimulus ST is non-invasively induced in a blood containing medium in the mammal for a preset period of time t. This at least one stimulus is selected to cause at least one of the following to occur: (a) inducing at least two of three Virchow's triad elements including abnormalities of blood flow; abnormalities of blood constituents and abnormalities of the blood vessel wall, and (b) inducing a change in red blood cell (RBC) aggregation or local blood viscosity. Measurements are non-invasively performed at a measurement location in the mammal by applying an external field thereto for a preset time period t, a response of the measurement location to the applied field is detected, and measured data indicative thereof generated. At least a portion of the measured data and stimulus related data are processed so as to determine a relation between a time function of the at least one stimulus ST(t) and a time function of the measured data OR(t). This relation is indicative of at least one blood circulation and blood coagulation related parameter of the mammal.

Methods and apparatus for non-invasive determination of patient's blood conditions

A method is presented for fabricating a semiconductor device operable to generate a THz spectral range radiation in response to an external field. According to this method, a heterostructure is formed from selected layers. The layers include at least first and second semiconductor layers made of materials having a certain initial overlap between the valence band of the second layer material and the conduction band of the first layer material. The heterostructure layers are arranged with a selected layout providing a quantum mechanical coupling between an electron quantum well (EQW) in said first layer and a hole quantum well (HQW) in said second layer. The layout is selected so as to define a predetermined arrangement of a plurality of energy subbands and a predetermined dispersion of these subbands to define a desired effective overlap between the energy subbands of said conduction and valence bands. This enables the device operation for generation of the THz spectral range radiation originating from multiple radiative transitions of non-equilibrium carriers including at least one transition from transitions between the following: energy subbands of the EQW, energy subbands of the HQW, and ground energy electron subband of the EQW and ground energy hole subband of the HQW.

Terahertz radiating device based on semiconductor coupled quantum wells

A method for optical measurements of desired parameters of the patient's blood is presented. A state of the blood flow cessation is provided within a measurement region and maintained during a predetermined time period. Measurement sessions are performed within this predetermined time period. Each measurement session includes at least two measurements with different wavelengths of incident light. Obtained measured data is representative of the time dependence of light response of the blood in the measurement region. The analyses of the measured data enables the determination of the desired blood parameters extracted from optical characteristics associated with the erythrocytes aggregation process during the state of the blood flow cessation.

Method of optical measurements for determining various parameters of the patient's blood

A semiconductor device and method of its fabrication are provided to enable the device operation in a THz spectral range. The device comprises a heterostructure including at least first and second semiconductor layers. The first and second layers are made of materials providing a quantum mechanical coupling between an electron quantum well (EQW) in the first layer and a hole quantum well (HQW) in the second layer, and providing an overlap between the valence band of the material of the second layer and the conduction band of the material of the first layer. A layout of the layers is selected so as to provide a predetermined dispersion of energy subbands in the conduction band of the first layer and the valence band of the second layer. An application of an external bias field across the first and second layers causes THz radiation originating from radiative transitions of non-equilibrium carriers between at least one of the following: neighboring energy subbands of the EQW, neighboring energy subbands of the HQW, and ground energy subbands of the EQW and HQW.

Method of optical measurement for determing various parameters of the patient's blood

A non-invasive method of optical measurements is presented for determining at least one desired parameter of patient's blood. The method utilizes reference data indicative of the values of the desired blood parameter as a function of at least two measurable parameters. At least one of the measurable parameters is derived from scattering spectral features of the medium highly sensitive to patient individuality, and the at least one other measurable parameter is indicative of artificial kinetics of the optical characteristics of the patient's blood perfused fleshy medium. A condition of artificial kinetics is created at a measurement location, and maintained during a certain time. Measurements are carried out with different wavelengths of incident light during a time period including this certain time. Measured data is in the form of time evolutions of light responses of the medium corresponding to the different wavelengths. By analyzing the measured data, the at least two measurable parameters are extracted, and the reference data is utilized to determine the at least one desired blood parameter.
