The present invention relates to a high strength steel tube. In addition, the invention relates to a method of manufacturing a high strength steel tube. The method is characterized in that a hot rolled pre-tube is subjected to at least two hardening steps with a final tempering step, the pre-tube is heated to a quenching temperature of at least Ac3 temperature for hardening and is heated to a tempering temperature in the range of 400 to 600&#xb0; C. for tempering.

In a method of producing a tubular structure for a gas generator, a tubular body is positioned relative to a forming device having inner and outer tools, which are moved relative to an end portion of the tubular body until an inner circumferential surface of a neck of the end portion rests against a support surface of the inner tool to reduce a diameter of the end portion by a tool contour of the outer tool and thereby form a shoulder. The outer tool is held in position upon the end portion and the neck inner circumferential surface is calibrated by a calibrating surface on a calibrating member of the inner tool while an outer circumferential surface of the neck is supported by the outer tool, as the inner tool is removed from the end portion. The outer tool is then removed from the end portion of the tubular body.

The opening is produced by a high-speed stamping process at a stamping speed of more than 4 m/s. A gas pressure container for an airbag system of a motor vehicle is disclosed having a tube element with a high bursting resistance when internal pressure is being applied. The tube element includes a steel alloy and a first longitudinal portion of the tube element has a tensile strength Rm,higher than (&#x3e;) 800 MPa, a transition temperature Tu,of at least &#x2212;40&#xb0; C., and an outer circumference U1. The tube element also includes at least one second longitudinal portion and/or additional longitudinal portions, which extend axially from the first longitudinal portion. The second longitudinal portion or the additional longitudinal portions and the first longitudinal portion are formed from a seamless or welded single-piece tube made of a uniform material, and more specifically from a hot-rolled or cold-drawn tube.

Gas pressure container and tube element for an airbag system, and method for producing same

A control arm includes a connection tube and two mounting eyes respectively attached to opposite ends of the tube. Each mounting eye has a sleeve and a rubber-metal element vulcanized into the sleeve. In a method of making such a control arm, an elongate tubular member is sized to a sleeve blank of a length commensurate with the tube. Parallel thereto, an extruded profile is made with a cross sectional configuration of the sleeve and subsequently sized to the axial height of the sleeve. Rubber-metal elements are vulcanized into the sleeve blanks which together with the tube are then clamped, axially shiftable, in a friction welding machine for subsequently fabricating protruding collars on the sleeves through material removal and joining the end surfaces of the protruding collars with the end surfaces of the tube. While still clamped, the tube and the mounting eyes are calibrated through cold upsetting and the joints are smoothed.
