A planetary gear system includes a carrier including a first side having a first oil manifold opening therethrough, and a second side having a second oil manifold opening therethrough, a first oil manifold and a second oil manifold. The first oil manifold has a first flange portion floatingly engaging with the first oil manifold opening, and a second flange portion engaging with the second oil manifold opening of the carrier, the second flange portion including a first oil manifold mounting flange. The second oil manifold has a second oil manifold flange portion engaging with the second oil manifold opening of the carrier, and including a second oil manifold mounting flange. At least one connecting member connects the first oil manifold mounting flange and the second oil manifold mounting flange so as to mount the first oil manifold and the second oil manifold to the carrier.

Floating oil manifold for planetary gear systems

A gearbox assembly includes a plurality of planet gears. At least one planet gear of the plurality of planet gears includes a layshaft that supports a first stage planet gear and a second stage planet gear. The at least one planet gear is characterized by a Radial Stage Distance greater than or equal to 30 millimeters and less than or equal to 100 millimeters. The Radial Stage Distance is R−R. A gearbox assembly includes a plurality of planet gears and a planet carrier including a plurality of planet gear pockets. Each planet gear is mounted in a respective planet gear pocket about a pin. The planet carrier is characterized by a planet carrier envelope in a range of 2.7 and 4.50. The planet carrier envelope is equal to a product of a planet gear pocket aspect ratio multiplied by a planet carrier radial ratio. The planet gear pocket aspect ratio is D/L. The planet carrier radial ratio is D/aw. Dis a planet gear pocket diameter of the plurality of planet gear pockets, L is a planet gear pocket length of the plurality of planet gear pockets, D is a planet carrier diameter of the planet carrier, and aw is a pin center distance from a longitudinal axis of the planet carrier to an axis of the pin.

A gear assembly for use with a turbomachine engine comprises a sun gear, a plurality of planet gears, and a ring gear. The gear assembly is connected to an input shaft and an output shaft. The sun gear is configured to rotate about a longitudinal centerline of the gear assembly and is driven by the input shaft. A component of the gear assembly drives the output shaft. The planet gears can be compound planet gears having a first stage and a second stage.

Compound symmetric gearbox for a turbomachine

A gearbox assembly includes a gear assembly that includes a planet gear, a pin disposed within the planet gear, a first sensor, and a second sensor. The first sensor is disposed within the pin and is configured to produce a signal indicative of a strain of the pin. The second sensor is disposed within the pin and is configured to produce a signal indicative of a vibration of the pin. Another gearbox assembly includes a gear assembly including a planet gear, a pin disposed within the planet gear, and a strain sensor. The strain sensor is disposed within the pin and is configured to produce a signal indicative of a strain of the pin. The strain sensor is located within the pin at a circumferential location of the pin that is opposite to a location of a force acting on the pin when the planet gear rotates about the pin.

An apparatus and method for reducing planet gear misalignment of planet gears mounted on a planet-carrier in an epicyclic gearing. The apparatus and method of the present disclosure specifically provide for a stiffness-reducing feature, a pillar, and a side-plate, each with a respective stiffness. In several embodiments, the feature stiffness is less than the pillar stiffness which is at least 10% less than the side-plate stiffness. The stiffness-reducing feature and the pillar may make up a pylon which has an axis. The pylon axis may form an angle with the side plate which is less than 90&#xb0; and greater than 20&#xb0;.

Planet-carrier for an epicyclic gearing

An apparatus and method for reducing edge contact stress concentrations in a press-fit. The apparatus and method of the present disclosure specifically provide for a press-fit collar having a channel circumscribing a collar axis. The channel having an asymmetrical cross-sectional profile in a radial face. The asymmetrical cross-sectional profile being configured to reduce an edge contact pressure.
