An apparatus for making mixed beverages may include a housing, a first hopper for receiving a first beverage ingredient, and a shaving mechanism. The shaving mechanism may include a first body that receives the first beverage ingredient from the first hopper. The first body may include a sidewall, at least one shaving blade and at least one respective opening extending through the sidewall. In use, the shaving blade shaves the first beverage ingredient, the first beverage ingredient is delivered through the opening in the sidewall, and the first beverage ingredient is conveyed within the first body. The apparatus may further include a mixing mechanism including a second body for receiving the first beverage ingredient from the first body.

A mobile wireless communications system may include a mobile wireless communications device that may include a portable housing, a wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and a processor carried by the portable housing and coupled to the wireless transceiver. The mobile wireless communications device may also include a near-field communication (NFC) device coupled to the processor. An NFC carrying case may carry and communicate with the mobile wireless communications device. The NFC carrying case may include a base panel to carry the mobile wireless communications device, and a removable cover panel coupled to the base panel. The NFC carrying case may also include pairs of discontinuous NFC circuit segments carried by the removable cover panel and switch assemblies carried by the removable cover panel. Each switch assembly may selectively couple a respective pair of discontinuous NFC circuit segments to establish NFC communication with the NFC device.

A shell is configured to attach to an electronic portable device (such as a smart phone or a pad/tablet-styled device). The shell comprises a unitary integral component having a stand that selectively moves between a deployed position and a stowed position and a corresponding stand brace that selectively moves between a deployed position and a stowed position. By one approach the stand pivots with respect to a portion of the shell that attaches to the electronic portable device and the stand brace pivots with respect to the stand. By one approach the stand and the stand brace are substantially disposed planar to one another when both are in their respective stowed positions. By one approach a free end of the stand brace contacts the electronic portable device when the stand brace is in its deployed position to thereby bias the stand towards the deployed position for the stand.

A dock for receiving a portable electronic device. The dock includes a housing comprising an aperture in a recess for receiving and supporting the portable electronic device, and a communication assembly disposed in the housing and moveable relative to the housing. The communication assembly includes a dock optical transceiver disposed in the aperture for aligning with a device optical transceiver when the portable electronic device is disposed in the recess, and magnets coupled to the optical transceiver for aligning with complementary magnets of the portable electronic device to facilitate engagement and disengagement of the portable electronic device with the dock and to facilitate alignment of the dock optical transceiver with the device optical transceiver when the portable electronic device is engaged with the dock.

A mobile wireless communications system may include a mobile wireless communications device including a portable housing, a wireless transceiver carried by the portable housing, and a processor carried by the portable housing and coupled to the wireless transceiver. The mobile wireless communications device may further include a near-field communication (NFC) device coupled to the processor. The system may include an adjacent NFC device configured to communicate directly with the mobile wireless communications device. The adjacent NFC device may include a plurality of pairs of discontinuous NFC circuit segments, and a respective switch assembly configured to selectively coupled each pair of discontinuous NFC circuit segments to establish NFC communication with the NFC device.

A dispensing apparatus for use with a pressurized container having a push valve. The dispensing apparatus includes an enclosure adapted to enclose at least a portion of the pressurized container. A pour actuator is movable between a released position and an actuated position, and controls a plunger. When the pour actuator is moved to the actuated position, the plunger depresses the push valve of the pressurized container to permit contents of the pressurized container to be dispensed out of the dispensing apparatus.

A base is hingedly coupled to the receptacle and has a second magnetic indexing part.
