A surveillance vehicle () comprising a vessel () and a parasail (). The vehicle () is loaded, in a pre-launch condition, into a mortar tube for projection therefrom towards an area of interest. In this pre-launch condition, the vessel () resembles a conventional mortar round and the parasail () is stowed within the vessel (). Upon arrival at the area of interest, the parasail () is deployed from the vessel () and instrumentation collects survey data.

Unmanned surveillance vehicle

A gas sensor comprises a substrate on which are mounted three cells. Each cell includes an interdigitated capacitor defined by a pair of comb structure, electrically conductive tracks with the fingers of the combs interleaved. The tracks of each capacitor are covered by an insulating and chemically inert protective coating of an electrolyte. A monitor monitors one of a resistive component and a capacitive component of the relative dielectric constant of the electrolyte independently of the other component.

Gas sensor and sensing device

A device for sensing the presence of and measuring the concentration of a specific non-aqueous particle or gas material in an environment, the device comprising an interdigitated capacitor having at least a pair of selected covering layers thereupon, said pair of layers comprising a first passive electrically insulative layer and a second material layer having a spacial relationship to said first layer, said second layer selectively permeable to the specific material to be sensed and measured; said second coating, when juxtaposed said first coating, selectively permitting permeability of the particular material sought to be sensed and measured, and when spaced apart, permitting passage through of the specific material in order that the material may migrate to the proximity of the first coating and thereby be sensed and measured. The presence of the specific material modifies the dielectric constant of the dielectric in the interdigitated capacitor electric field and thus the capacitor's capacitance, whereupon the interdigitated capacitor's capacitance is compared with a proximate temperature sensing interdigitated capacitor in a capacitance sensing circuit and by the change of the capacitance, the presence and concentration of the specific material determined.

Specific material detection and measuring device

A capacitive transducer which comprises a pair of joined-together thin-film capacitors and a fluid-impervious container. The container may be filled with a standard solution of known composition. One of the two thin-film capacitors is immersed in the standard solution inside the container while the other is situated outside the container. The entire transducer may be immersed in a sample, and the capacitance of the outside capacitor, which is dependent on the dielectric constant of the sample, may be compared with that of the inside capacitor after the standard solution has reached thermal equilibrium with the sample.

Dielectric measuring systems

A chemical vapor deposition method for manufacturing tungsten-silicide thin-film resistors of predetermined bulk resistivity and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Gaseous compounds of tungsten and silicon are decomposed on a hot substrate to deposit a thin-film of tungsten-silicide. The TCR of the film is determined by the crystallinity of the grain structure, which is controlled by the temperature of deposition and the tungsten to silicon ratio. The bulk resistivity is determined by the tungsten to silicon ratio. Manipulation of the fabrication parameters allows for sensitive control of the properties of the resistor.
