A nutating disc compressor includes a disc having cone-shaped surfaces and a centrally disposed sphere positioned within a symmetrical, a spherical-segment shaped chamber which is adapted to contain the disc and has a central bearing to movably engage the sphere and to allow the disc to nutate within the chamber. The compressor is driven by an external source of power, preferably through the drive shaft. Preferably, the compressor contains a plurality of stages which are linked together.

A nutating internal combustion engine is disclosed including a disc having cone-shaped surfaces and a centrally disposed sphere positioned within a symmetrical, spherical-segment shaped chamber which is adapted to contain the disc and has a central bearing to movably engage the sphere and to allow the disc to nutate within the chamber to turn drive shafts. Preferably, the engine operates on a four cycle principle and combines the intake and compression chambers into a single chamber and the combustion and exhaust chambers into a single chamber to fire every 180 degrees.

A compression mold includes punch and cavity components fabricated from initially flat sheets of relatively thin metal. The sheets of each component are shaped, assembled and joined to provide box-like components defining mating mold surfaces yielding molded parts which may be straight or laterally and/or vertically curved. The hollow interior of the two components allows for the circulation therethrough of an appropriate heat transfer medium to permit molding of either thermosetting or thermoplastic compounds.

Method of making a fabricated sheet metal compression mold

An elongated spring member is formed of fiber reinforced plastics, particularly resin-impregnated glass fiber strands, and includes end provisions adjacent the two ends for the reception of attachment elements associated with the use of the spring. The spring includes parallel impregnated strands which have been wound about a rack provided with end supports following which the entire wound resinous product is placed within a mold cavity and cured to provide a spring member having integral, molded end provisions encircled by continuous, uncut reinforcing fibers with or without the inclusion of additional reinforcing material, and which is molded without the formation of any significant waste product. The improved spring member includes transversely disposed end provisions which may comprise a passageway or elongated end members encircled by the reinforced strands and the center axis thereof may be along the neutral axis of the spring body or alternatively, above or below the neutral axis.

Elongated spring member

A portable step assembly for attachment to a tree or pole includes a generally L-shaped climbing member and a separate, headed fastener member. The fastener member is removably insertable through a mounting portion on the climbing member after which the climbing member is employed as a crank tool to drive the fastener member into the tree. A specially configured socket recess or cavity within the mounting portion captively receives the screw member head and serves two primary purposes. First, it allows a one-handed push upon the assembly during the initial drive of the fastener member and secondly, dual sets of shoulders within the socket cavity form positive abutments to screw or unscrew the assembly respectively during its attachment or removal from a tree. By forming an end of the climbing member with a drive head mating with a segment of the mounting portion, the drive head of one climbing member may be coupled with the mounting portion of another climbing member being attached or removed from a tree, so as to provide additional leverage to facilitate application or removal of the fastener.

Fabricated sheet metal compression mold and method of making

A plurality of reinforced plastic parts are simultaneously molded from separate bundles of resin impregnated strands wound about individual frame sections of a substantially planar frame assembly. A loading station includes a dual-acting elongated carrier engaging the multi-sectioned frame assembly and initially rotatable to wind the bundle of strands thereon. Subsequent reciprocation of the carrier delivers the wound frame assembly to a molding station provided with a plurality of mating pairs of mold sections and having displaceable frame supporting and bundle clamping assemblies for engaging the wound frame assembly and severing opposite ends of the bundles as the mold sections close within the individual frame sections. Upon opening of the mold sections, molded parts and the empty frame assembly are subsequently shuttled from the molding station by a removal station provided with a reciprocating elongated carrier axially aligned with the center line of the molding station and the loading station carrier. Acceleration of the molding cycle may be achieved by pre-heating of the wound bundles intermediate the loading and molding stations.

Method for simultaneously molding a plurality of products

Method and apparatus for simultaneously molding a plurality of parts

A reinforced plastic product is molded from a bundle of resin impregnated strands with the bundle being sequentially advanced from a supply station to a molding station by two pairs of clamping assemblies simultaneously reciprocating in opposite directions with the forward moving pair gripping the bundle and pulling it to the molding station as the rearward moving pair is shuttled back past the forward moving pair toward the supply station to grip the bundle prior to molding of the forward gripped bundle.

Method and apparatus for sequentially forming a molded product

A target made of interchangeable sections each comprising a multiplicity of membranes or plies of penetrable, elastomeric or resistant, tear resistant sheet resin material, the membranes being separated by intervening layers of porous or low density, resilient material such as foam resin material. Membranes are disclosed having opposite surfaces with different coefficients of friction.

There is disclosed a method and apparatus for making tubular fiber reinforced thermosetting resin elements having a thermoplastic lining. The technique involves application of a thermoplastic lining layer to an axially moving mandrel surface, application of at least one layer of fiber reinforced thermosetting resin material superimposed upon the lining layer, providing for bonding of thermosetting and thermoplastic layers to each other, and heating the thermosetting resin to effect solidification during axial advancement of the superimposed layers with the moving mandrel surface. Provision is also made for applying a thermoplastic jacket layer superimposed upon the thermosetting layer.

A grating comprising preformed fiber reinforced resin strips stacked in the positions of the intersecting bars of the grating and with the strips interleaving at the points of intersection, the reinforcement strips being embedded in a resin matrix. The method for making the grating comprises forcing the fiber reinforced strips with the fibers under tension, and assembling such preformed strips in a mold having a network of intersecting cavities for defining the grating bars, the cavities being initally charged with liquid hardenable resin material, so that the reinforcement strips are submerged in the liquid resin during assembly, the embedment resin being subsequently hardened.
