A belt, for a press section, which includes a body portion which is permeable to pressurized gas provided in a press nip and which is substantially impermeable to liquid during passage through the press nip. A press section and method which includes such belt are also provided.

A controller is provided which includes a plurality of equally spaced sensors disposed symmetrically about an intersection of at least two orthogonal axes and spaced from such axes by a null zone which is concentric with such sensors. Control circuitry is electrically connected to the sensors to control movement of a controlled object in a direction which is related to the position of an operator's finger and the like relative to such intersection.

A method of joining the ends of a papermakers fabric wherein machine direction yarns are fringed out at the fabric ends, yarn ends being laid across a pinned plate, and yarn ends being cut back so as partially to overlie the plate. Those yarns which extend across the plate are folded back to form loops beyond the edge of the plate and a thermoplastics matrix material is applied to the plate. The matrix material is made fluid by heating and, on subsequent cooling, forms an apertured end to the fabric which presents side-by-side, outwardly extending loops. The loops at the respective fabric ends may be interdigited to receive a pintle wire, thus to bring the fabric into endless form. A variation of the method wherein a reticulate, premoulded seam element is engaged with the pinned plate for attachment to machine direction yarns of the fabric on melting of the matrix material, the seam element including axially aligned tunnels at a free edge thereof for cooperation with similar formations at an opposed fabric end and to receive a pintle wire.

This invention is directed to an improved forming fabric for papermaking machines having a transverse nonwoven sheet contact layer adhered to a base fabric layer, the fluid flow passageways between adjacent structural members in the nonwoven sheet contact layer being smaller than the fluid flow passageways in the adjacent base fabric layer and in fluid communication with the nonwoven sheet contact surface or the nonwoven surface adjacent to the base fabric or both. The sheet contact layer may be comprised of fibers, filaments, monofilaments, open cell foam or the like.

A regenerable filter for use with exhaust gas streams containing combustible particles, the filter including a filter medium upon which the particles build up as the filter medium removes the particles from the gas stream, a scraper to remove the particles, except for a precoat, from the filter medium, and a burner to burn the removed particles outside the main exhaust gas exit.

This invention is directed to a nonwoven fabric having knuckle-free planar surfaces being comprised of (1) parallel linear machine direction yarns residing in a single plane and (2) interconnecting, cross-machine direction polymeric material also residing in said plane and substantially entirely surrounding the machine direction yarns, the cross-machine direction material containing spaced perforations through the fabric. The invention is also directed to the manufacture of such nonwoven fabric.

Nonwoven fabric and method of manufacture

A control interface between a physical object, such as a part of the human body, and a machine. Movement of the physical object in a defined field is sensed, and signals corresponding to such movement are received, detected, amplified and produced as an input signal to the machine to move an element of the machine in the same direction as, and in an amount proportional to, movement of the object. A separator for separating particulate material from fluid having a feed conduit including a plurality of feed openings and a collector having open and closed areas. The feed openings are spaced from, parallel to and continuously substantially encompassed by a portion of the closed area of the collector. The collector is moveable relative to the feed openings. A discharge conduit and particulate removal apparatus are also provided.

Separator

A dimensionally stable filter structure for high temperature applications and method of making it. The filter structure comprises at least one batt of relatively brittle fibers, known to possess outstanding degredation resistance at elevated temperatures, stitch-knitted with high temperature and corrosion resistant yarns.

Generally, the present invention relates to a resin-treated filter fabric which comprises a surface or batt layer comprised of glass fibers which is joined, by needling, to an underlayer which is comprised of mineral fibers. The present invention includes within its scope a method of manufacturing such a filter fabric.
