Cellulosic materials are converted to hydrocarbons by hydrolyzing cellulosic materials to produce a mixture of fermentable sugars and unfermentable furfural, fermenting the mixture to obtain a fermented mixture containing fermented product and unfermented furfural and contacting the fermented mixture with a highly siliceous crystalline zeolite catalyst under conditions of temperature and pressure to convert the fermented mixture to a hydrocarbon-containing product. Preferably, an oxygenated organic compound such as methanol, ethanol or dimethylether is mixed with the fermented mixture prior to contact with the catalyst.

Process for converting cellulosic materials to hydrocarbon products

Heavy hydrocarbon oils of high paraffin content are catalytically cracked using zeolite beta. The paraffin content of the oil is at least 20 weight percent or higher. The gasoline cracking products have a high octane rating and the higher boiling products a decreased pour point resulting from the dewaxing activity of the zeolite beta. The use of cracking temperatures above 500.degree. C., preferably above 550.degree. C., also improves iso-butene production.

Catalytic cracking of paraffinic feedstocks with zeolite beta

A process for the direct conversion of an aqueous solution of carbohydrates to hydrocarbons where a feed consisting essentially of an aqueous solution of carbohydrates is passed over a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst having a constraint index of 1 to 12 and a silica/alumina molar ratio of about 12. An important feature of this invention is the short amount of time the aqueous carbohydrate solution is in contact with the catalyst.

Conversion of carbohydrates

A process is provided for the conversion of carbohydrates such as starch, cellulose and sugar into hydrocarbon products of increased carbon content. Solutions of the carbohydrate are contacted with a crystalline silicate zeolite catalyst such as ZSM-5 at a temperature 300.degree. C. to 650.degree. C. to provide hydrocarbon products which are useful as chemicals or fuels.

Process for converting carbohydrates to hydrocarbons

The present invention relates to a process for conversion of feedstock comprising C.sub.3.sup.+ olefins in the absence of added hydrogen over a catalyst comprising a crystalline zeolite having large pores and a high silica/alumina mole ratio.
