Embodiments of the disclosure can include a method for reducing or repairing vibration-caused damage in a stator bar, and a dynamoelectric machine resulting therefrom. The method for reducing vibration-caused damage in a stator can include applying, from within a ventilation slot of a stator core, a liquid based vibration-absorbing material onto a side ripple spring, the side ripple spring being in contact with a stator bar and the stator core; and allowing the liquid based vibration-absorbing material to cure, wherein the cured vibration-absorbing material remains in contact with the side ripple spring for absorbing stator vibrations.

Vibration damage repair in dynamoelectric machines

An apparatus for detecting a leak in a gas cooled generator is provided. The apparatus includes a subsystem for introducing a non-corrosive second gas having an infrared absorption spectrum into the generator. The apparatus also includes an imaging component adapted to detect radiation at the infrared absorption spectrum of the non-corrosive second gas. The imaging component is provided with a filter that filters wavelengths in a range encompassing the infrared absorption spectrum of the non-corrosive second gas. The imaging component displays an image of the tracer gas leaking from the generator on the imaging component.

Detecting coolant leaks in turbine generators

A method for preparing a field coil winding assembly including cleaning a plurality of copper coils followed by developing, after the cleaning, a copper oxide layer on each of the copper coils by oxidizing each of the copper coils in a solution. After the developing, each of the copper coils is rinsed followed by drying. After the drying, a turn insulation system is applied to each of the copper coils. The turn insulation system includes a turn insulation and an adhesive. The turn insulation includes at least one of a glass fiber re-enforced polyamideimide, a glass fiber re-enforced polyester, or a glass fiber re-enforced high temperature novolac epoxy. After the applying, each of the copper coils with the turn insulation system is cured. The plurality of copper coils with the turn insulation system are stacked in each of a plurality of rotor slots in a rotor.

Field coil winding assembly

Novel one part, heat cured pressure-sensitive adhesives capable of bonding metallic and non-metallic materials at ambient temperatures and curing at elevated temperatures to form a bond with very high adhesive bond strengths at temperatures up to at least 160&#xb0; C. The invention is particularly well suited for use with insulated copper coils in electrical generators and includes both the adhesive compositions per se and adhesive transfer tapes capable of bonding to the copper coils at ambient temperatures upon contact due to the pressure sensitive tack of the adhesive. The transfer tapes can subsequently be cured to a hard, thermoset adhesive with high adhesive bond strength. In applications on insulated copper coils, exemplary one part, heat cured pressure-sensitive adhesives can be used either alone or in combination with a substrate to form single or double-sided adhesive tape capable of securing the generator rotor turn insulation. The pressure sensitive materials can also be applied to a mat carrier, such as aramid paper, polyester glass, or glass cloth based epoxy sheets.

Controlled compliance rotor winding support block

A method of inserting a terminal stud adapter section of a terminal stud into the radial bore of a rotor, involving a tool, which includes an elongated tool body having a head at one end from which a pair of pins project. The head is preferably plated with copper. The head is received in the recess of a stud adapter section with the pins engaging in apertures in the adapter section. By inserting the adapter section in the radial bore of a rotor, the adapter section can be threaded to the bore copper. Upon removal of the tool from the recess of the adapter section, an outer section of the terminal stud is received within the radial bore and an inner end thereof makes electrical connection with the adapter section.

Tool for the installation of a terminal stud adapter in a generator rotor and methods therefor

A generator has a bore connector having a threaded radial opening for receiving a sectional terminal stud. The terminal stud includes an adapter section having threads on a radial inner end thereof for threaded engagement with the bore copper and a recess at its opposite end. An outer section of the terminal stud is received in the recess, making electrical connection therewith through an electrical connector. The outer section is maintained in the radial bore of the rotor by a threaded nut. The rotational orientation of the adapter section is fixed by its threaded engagement with the bore copper, while the outer section can be inserted without regard to rotational orientation, thereby facilitating refurbishment of the generator without remachining the bore copper.
