A carton is formed from a blank having gusseted corners that in part form an interior carton volume. The interior volume of the carton can be varied by placing the carton in an expanded configuration. The carton can include a bottom receptacle portion that may be liquid-tight.

Gusseted carton

A carton for containing a plurality of articles. The carton comprises a first top panel, a second top panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel, and a second side panel. The first top panel and the second top panel being at least partially overlapped to form a top wall of the carton. At least two end flaps are overlapped with respect to one another and thereby at least partially form a closed end of the carton. A handle in the top wall of the carton comprises a first handle section in the first top panel, a second handle section in the second top panel, and a handle reinforcement flap foldably connected to at least one of the first top panel and the second top panel. The first handle section, the second handle section, and the handle reinforcement flap are placed in overlapping relationship to form the handle.

A carton for containing a plurality of articles. The carton has panels that extend at least partially around an interior of the carton. The panels comprise a top panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel, and a second side panel. At least two end flaps are respectively foldably attached to respective panels of the plurality of panels, wherein the end flaps are overlapped with respect to one another and thereby at least partially form a closed end of the carton. The carton includes a handle in the closed end of the carton for grasping and carrying the carton. At least one end flap of the at least two end flaps comprises a main panel for closing the closed end of the carton and an extension panel foldably attached to the main panel. The extension panel is positioned above the handle to reinforce the carton.

A carton for containing a plurality of articles. The carton comprises a top panel, a bottom panel, a first side panel, a second side panel, a top end flap foldably connected to the top panel, and a side end flap foldably connected to one of the first side panel and the second side panel. The carton includes a handle in the closed end of the carton for grasping and carrying the carton. The side end flap comprises a main panel for closing the closed end of the carton and an extension panel foldably attached to the main panel an the top end flap.

An enclosed carton comprising a dispenser in one end of the carton that can be easily opened and closed without tearing the paperboard, the dispenser having a dispensing flap joined at its inner edge to the end of the bottom panel, with the dispensing flap being attached at its side to the side exiting panels of the carton by gusset straps, with the outer edge of the dispensing flap being tucked beneath the bottom edges of side exiting end flaps when the carton is closed, with the dispensing flap having a holding flap recessed in its outer edge for engaging a holding tab on the bottom edges of the side exiting flap.

A tray and sleeve carton adapted to protect delicate packaged articles, such as computer chips. The tray includes spaced integral tubular supports which contain recesses for receiving the end portions of packaged articles. Each recess has a bottom support shelf spaced from the bottom panel and a back wall spaced from the side panels, thus creating false walls which support and isolate the article from the outer structure of the carton.

A wrap-around carrier having lower article end restraints and upper end panel flaps. The lower end restraints are comprised of lower gusset panels connecting the bottom panel to side panel flaps, while the upper end panel flaps are connected to the side panel flaps by upper gusset panels. The end panel flaps and the end restraints automatically fold into their operable position when the side panel flaps are folded during fabrication of the carrier.

A paperboard clip-type carrier especially suited for carrying beverage cans. The top panel comprises overlapped inner and outer top panel flaps which provide double thickness in the handle area. Support edges in reinforcement sections connected to the bottom panel and the side panels engage the underside of the can chimes to support them, and stress relief score lines are provided to distribute stresses from the support edges through the reinforcement sections. The side panel has cutouts through which the can chimes can protrude, allowing the side panels to be positioned tightly against the cans to increase the strength of the carrier.

Clip-type article carrier

Integral retaining means in an open-ended wrap-around carrier for preventing the spaced bottom portions of articles such as tapered tubs from engaging each other and escaping the carrier through the open end. The bottom panel is comprised of inner and outer mechanically connected flaps. The outer bottom panel flap contains a retainer flap at each end connected along a fold line overlying the inner edge of an opening in the inner bottom panel flap. The retainer flaps extend up into the interior of the carrier through the openings in the inner bottom panel flap, and include spaced converging fold lines which create angled side walls for engaging the bottom portions of the articles.

A paperboard carrier for beverage cans the bottom of which tend to be deformed when subjected to sharp blows. The panel adjacent the can bottoms is formed of two sheets in face-to-face engagement. The interior face of the inner sheet contains a number of raised embossed portions against which the can bottoms abut. The embossed portions, which may be comprised of spaced embossed protrusions of circular or other shape, effectively increase the cushioning effect of the sheet and, in conjunction with the other sheet of the panel, protect the can bottom against damage. The embossed portions are arranged so as to contact the circumferential rims normally provided at the bottom of beverage cans.

A carton having a bottom panel comprised of two overlapping flaps. The outer flap has a primary male tab engaging a primary female locking edge in the inner flap, while the inner flap has a secondary male locking tab engaging a secondary female locking opening in the outer flap. The secondary locking tab is connected to the carbon along a fold line coinciding with the fold line connecting the inner flap to the adjacent side panel, allowing a large secondary locking tab to be used even though the bottom panel is narrow. The outer and inner flaps are able to overlap across substantially the full width of the flaps to form a bottom panel of double thickness.

Wrap-around carton locking means

A sling-bottom carrier adapted to carry long-necked beverage bottles. The carrier has an upper panel and a center partition with transverse cell-forming partitions. The center partition has a handle opening near the top and the top panel has a handle access opening overlying the center partition. A flap covering the access opening is folded down in use to allow a user to reach the handle opening. The front, back, bottom and top panels are formed from a continuous integral sheet, and the center partition sections of the carrier blank are on the same side of the sheet, thereby minimizing the amount of material needed. A reinforcing section makes the handle area in the center partition of triple thickness.

Sling-bottom article carrier

A wrap-around carton containing articles having outwardly extending flanges. The top panel is connected to the side panels along fold lines comprised of spaced short lengths of fold lines. The spaces between the lengths comprise slots through which the flanges of articles protrude, and the top panel includes tabs which extend beyond the slots to overlie the protruding flanges. The tabs and slots are formed in carton blanks by slits in the side panel sections which extend into the top panel section.

A basket-type carrier in which the cells are longer than they are wide in order to receive articles which are elongated in transverse cross section. The blank for forming the carrier contains spaced centrally located support panel sections which are foldably connected to riser panel sections and to the ends of partition straps. The folds connecting the center support panel sections to the partition straps are located between the folds connecting the side panels to the end panel sections and the folds connecting the end panel sections to the riser panel sections.
