An electrical socket for mounting on a flat, flexible conductor carrier (FFC), for connecting an electrical plug (P) to a conductor (C) on the conductor carrier (FFC), comprises a base plate having a central plug receiving opening. A pair of contact springs extend from opposite edges of the base plate and have arcuate contact surfaces which project across the opening on one face of the plate for resiliently engaging the plug (P) between them. On each side of the opening is a pair of lugs depending from the other face of the plate and being adapted to be passed through the conductor carrier (FFC) and curled round towards each other to make electrical contact with the conductor (C). In use, the plug (P) is passed through the opening in a direction normally of the plane of the base plate, and through the conductor carrier (FFC).

Electrical socket

A pin and socket terminal is comprised of a pin (2) and a socket (4). The socket (4) has a lead-in portion (3) which is an integral portion of housing (21). The lead-in portion (3) cooperates with the pin (2), as the pin is inserted into the socket, such that the rotation of the pin is controlled as insertion occurs. In order to accomplish this controlled rotation, the lance (12) physically engages camming surfaces (34) of the socket (4) as the pin (2) is inserted into the socket (4). The configuration of the camming surfaces (34) insures that the lance (12) and the pin (2) will be prevented from harmful rotation, which is particularly important when the pin is electrically connected to a fine wire. The cooperation of the lance (12) and a respective slot (28) of the socket (2) also insures that the pin (12) will be prevented from any movement relative to the socket when the pin is fully inserted into the socket.

A module (2) is connected to a multiplexing system by means of a printed circuit board (18) having thereon first conductors (14) each connected to a second conductor (22) by means of a spring clip (24) on the board (18). An edge connector (38) for mating with the board (18) has thereon projections (62) which can be selectively removed before the connector (38) is mated with the board (18). When the board (18) and the connector (38) are mated, the remaining projections (62) each left a respective clip (24) from its first conductor (14) and protrude between the clip (24) and the first conductor (14), thereby disconnecting them. The projections (62) and clips (24) thus provide a switching system which can be used to ensure that only selected second conductors (22) carry current.

A two part connector has latch arms (4) and ramps (3) which latch together to give positive mating in known manner. To facilitate release the arms (4) are depressible in the mated condition to allow withdrawal of latch projections (6) below ramps (3). Resilient stop fingers (15) may be provided to inhibit mismating.

A tool for applying bundle ties comprises a frame supporting a reciprocable carriage in a guide path leading to a loop guide around which ties are to be driven by the carriage. The carriage is reciprocated by a drive rod having a handle projecting laterally through a slot in the frame for manual operation. A trigger is mounted in a handle of the frame and is coupled to the rod by a clutch arranged to engage the rod on rearward movement of the trigger.

Tool for applying bundle ties

A tool for applying ties to bundles comprises a magazine chamber leading directly to the path of a reciprocable carriage adapted on forward movement to engage the leading tie in the magazine and drive it into a loop guide releasably disposed about a bundle. The tie tail is reversed about the bundle by the loop guide under the driving force of the carriage to pass through the head of the tie in a reverse direction to engage a gripper in the carriage. Reversal of the carriage tensions the tie about the bundle and repositions the carriage in a starting position in relation to the magazine. A shear device operating transversely of the carriage path and disposed at its forward end severs the tie tail adjacent the tie head, and opens the loop guide for removal of the bundle.

Method and tool for applying ties

A flexible plastics bundle tie comprising a strap extending from an apertured frame for passage of the strap looped back on itself, is provided at the frame with means for releasably engaging the frame of a similar tie to form a stack in which the straps are generally parallel. The means may comprise a tongue projecting from the frame on a side opposite to the strap engaging the aperture of the adjacent frame.
