An efficient connector of the insulation displacement type with specific useful features for maintaining an electrical connection with an insulated conductive lead. Generally, the connector includes a terminal unitary terminal having a body portion with a leg extending therefrom. The leg has a compression side, a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end has an arcuate portion with an aperture formed therein. The distal end has a fork with a pair of prongs defining an open slot. Formed in the compression side of the leg is a notch that, like the aperture, aids in bending and maintaining the leg in contact with an electrical lead.

Insulation displacement device for wire termination

Disclosed is an apparatus for voiding selected terminals from a connector assembly wherein an array of terminals, joined to a common carrier member, are partially preloaded in a connector housing. The apparatus includes a punch having a first projection which engages and deforms the terminal. The punch further includes a second projection following the first projection, for severing the terminal from the carrier strip. The selected terminals are disengaged and extracted from the connector housing and severed from the carrier member, at the voiding station.

Connector fabrication method and apparatus

A die for crimping an electrical terminal onto a wire lead. This includes a base with a terminal support structure for supporting and feeding a strip of terminals to a crimp station overlying an anvil. Punch means are provided over the anvil adapted to move in contact with a terminal at the crimp station to form with the anvil an electrical connection between the wire lead and terminal. The anvil is supported on a resilient cantilever beam member which deflects during the crimping operation.
