A method and controller for controlling the purge cycling of an air dryer assembly is disclosed. The controller includes a control output for transmitting a control signal for controlling the air dryer. The controller is capable of initiating an enhanced purge cycle for the air dryer based on a regeneration volume value. The regeneration volume value is based on the accumulated volume of air delivered to the air dryer for a first time or since a prior standard purge cycle.

Air dryer purge controller and method

A purge exhaust processor includes an inlet chamber, a sump chamber, a selectively charged surface in the inlet chamber, and an orifice. The inlet chamber receives purge exhaust including at least one of air, water vapor, oil aerosol, and water aerosol. The selectively charged surface agglomerates at least one of the oil aerosol and water aerosol into a liquid. The orifice is sized for passing the agglomerated liquid from the inlet chamber to the sump chamber.

Purge exhaust processor

An air dryer cartridgeconfigured for use on both conventional air dryer systems having internal purge air valving and newer air dryer systems wherein at least some of the purge air valving is located in the cartridge. The air dryer cartridgehas a first connectorfor mating with a corresponding connector of a conventional air dryer system, and a second connectorfor mating with a corresponding connector of a newer-style air dryer system. When the cartridgeis installed on a conventional air dryer system, purge air valvingwithin the cartridge is deactivated causing the cartridge to act as a conventional air dryer cartridge. When the cartridgeis installed in a newer-style system, the purge air valvingwithin the cartridge is activated thus enabling the system to function as designed.

Air dryer cartridge

An air dryer cartridge assembly, used in a compressed air system, includes a rigid porous layer, a fibrous material layer, a diffusing layer and a desiccant for filtering and drying compressed air passing in a first direction during a charging cycle. The compressed air passes through diffusing layer, the fibrous material layer and the rigid porous layer in a second direction during a purging cycle. The desiccant, which is downstream of the rigid porous layer, the fibrous material layer and the diffusing layer during the charging cycle, reduces moisture in the compressed air during the charging cycle. The use of diffusing layer downstream of the fibrous material layer during a charging cycle disperses the compressed air so that moisture removal is improved in the desiccant.

Air dryer assembly

An air drying arrangement for a commercial vehicle is provided having two or more desiccant canisters arranged in parallel on a single air dryer body. The arrangement may include a coupling device that attaches to the body and allows the two or more desiccant containing canisters to mount to the device. The arrangement may be configured to balance the flow of air to each of the desiccant containing canisters when drying air and/or when regenerating the desiccant.

The arrangement may include an coupling device that attaches to the body and allows the two or more desiccant containing canisters to mount to the device. Air dryer

A purge valve for use with an air drying system is provided. The valve includes a housing or body, a piston disposed within the body, and a valve in communication with the piston. The respective geometries of the piston body and the valve define a circumferential cavity between and around the piston body and the valve. A sealing means is disposed within the circumferential cavity for forming a seal between the valve and the body. A plurality of guide members attached to or formed integrally with the valve provide positional stability to the valve within the body and provide enhanced airflow in, through, and around the valve.

Purge valve

An air dryer, used in a compressed air system, includes an oil coalescing element for agglomerating oil in compressed air passing through the oil coalescing element in a first direction during a charging cycle and passing through the oil coalescing element in a second direction during a purging cycle. A drying material, which is downstream of the oil coalescing element during the charging cycle and upstream of the oil coalescing element during the purging cycle, reduces moisture in the compressed air during the charging cycle.

Air dryer with oil removal filter

A purge exhaust processor includes an inlet chamber receiving a purge exhaust. A portion of the purge exhaust including at least one of moisture, air, and oil is passed from the inlet chamber to a sump volume. A heat source changes a phase of the moisture from liquid to gas. A wick transfers the oil from the sump volume to an oil collector.

A drain valve for a vehicle compressed air system, which separates dirt, water, debris and other relatively heavy objects from a compressed air stream. The drain valve includes a sump with a tangential inlet. The tangential inlet creates a vortex within the sump that collects relatively heavy objects at the bottom of the sump and allows the compressed air to exit the drain valve through an outlet port located at the top of the drain valve. A pressure actuated valve and drain port allows for the water to be discharged from the drain valve while retaining the pneumatic signal.

Drain valve

A pressure control valve includes a housing, a piston within the housing, a biasing means within the housing for biasing the piston to seat in a first position for limiting fluid communication between an inlet port of the housing and an outlet port of the housing, and an insert cooperating with the biasing means for setting a pressure differential between an inlet side of the piston and an outlet side of the piston that unseats the piston from the first position for establishing fluid communication between the inlet port and the outlet port.
