Because there are currently probably more than necessary different HDR video coding methods appearing, it is expected that practical communicated HDR videos may in several future scenarios consist of a complicated mix of differently encoded HDR video segments, which may be difficult to decode unless one has our presently presented video decoder () arranged to decode a high dynamic range video consisting of temporally successive images, in which the video is composed of successive time segments (S, S) consisting of a number of temporally successive images (I, I) which have pixel colors, which pixel colors in different time segments are defined by having lumas corresponding to pixel luminances according to different electro-optical transfer functions (EOTF), wherein the images in some of the segments are defined according to dynamically changeable electro-optical transfer functions which are transmitted as a separate function for each temporally successive image, and wherein the images in other segments have lumas defined by a fixed electro-optical transfer function, of which the information is co-communicated in data packages (DRAM) which are transmitted less frequently than the image repetition rate, and wherein at least one of said data packages (DRAM) characterizing the electro-optical transfer function of the image pixel lumas after a moment of change (t) between a first and a second segment is transmitted prior to the moment of change (t); and similarly a corresponding encoder which composes the segmented video stream assuring that at least one correct package (DRAM) describing the EOTF according to which the lumas of a later video segment is coded is received by receivers before the change to a different HDR encoding method segment.

System for handling multiple HDR video formats

To allow pragmatic insertion of secondary images by an apparatus connected to the final display we invented an image processing apparatus () with an output image connection () for connection to a display (), and an input () for receiving an input image (IM) and metadata specifying at least one luminance mapping function (F_Lt), which luminance mapping function specifies the relationship between luminances in the input image and a second image with an at least 6 times higher or lower maximum luminance, and comprising a graphics generation unit () arranged to determine a secondary image (IMG), and an image composition unit () arranged to compose an output image (IMC) on the basis of the pixel colors of the input image and of the secondary image, characterized in that the image processing apparatus comprises a luminance function selection unit (), which is arranged to output to a metadata output () a copy of the at least one luminance mapping function (F_Lt) in case no secondary image colors arc mixed with the input image, and which is arranged to output a predetermined mapping function (F) in case the output image is not identical to the input image because some pixel colors of the secondary image have been used to change the input image colors.

Graphics-safe HDR image luminance re-grading

In a video processing system, such as e.g. a set top box or a BD player wherein in a merger video can be merged with one or more overlays a video/overlay pixel indication (A) is encoded in one or more of the least significant bits of one or more of the color components in the video signal. The video signal is transmitted over the interface between VPS and display. The display subject the image to an adaptation. This adaptation is performed dependent on the video/overlay pixel indication (A).

Method for encoding, video processor, method for decoding, video decoder

A spatial audio processing apparatus comprises a receiver () for receiving audio scene data describing an audio scene comprising spatial audio components and associated position data. The audio components may be provided as audio objects. A distance unit () provides a position indication which includes a focus distance that is indicative of a distance from a reference position in the audio scene. An adapter () adapts a perceptual emphasis property, such as an audio level, frequency distribution, or degree of diffuseness, of a spatial audio component relative to at least one other spatial audio component of the audio scene in response to a difference measure reflecting a difference between the focus distance and a distance in the audio scene from the reference position to a position of the spatial audio component. An audio renderer () renders the resulting audio scene using the received position data. The approach may emphasize audio at the focus distance in the audio scene.

Spatial audio processing emphasizing sound sources close to a focal distance

An audio object encoder comprises a receiver () which receives N audio objects. A downmixer () downmixes the N audio objects to M audio channels, and a channel circuit () derives K audio channels from the M audio channels, K=1, 2 and K&#x3c;M. A parameter circuit () generates audio object upmix parameters for at least part of each of the N audio objects relative to the K audio channels and an output circuit () generates an output data stream comprising the audio object upmix parameters and the M audio channels. An audio object decoder receives the data stream and includes a channel circuit () deriving K audio channels from the M channel downmix; and an object decoder () for generating at least part of each of the N audio objects by upmixing the K audio channels based on the audio object upmix parameters. The invention may allow improved object encoding while maintaining backwards compatibility.

Audio object encoding and decoding

An encoder () generates data representing an audio scene by a first downmix and data characterizing audio objects. In addition, a direction dependent diffuseness parameter indicative of a degree of diffuseness of a residual downmix is provided where the residual downmix corresponds to a downmix of audio components of the audio scene with the audio objects being extracted. A rendering apparatus () comprises a receiver () receiving the data from the encoder (). A circuit () generates signals for a spatial speaker configuration from the audio objects. A transformer () generates non-diffuse sound signals for the spatial speaker configuration by applying a first transformation to the residual downmix and another transformer () generates signals for the spatial speaker configuration by applying a second transformation to the residual downmix by applying a decorrelation to the residual downmix. The transformations are dependent on the direction dependent diffuseness parameter. The signals are combined to generate an output signal.

Spatial audio rendering and encoding

A method of enabling a user to adjust at least first and second control parameters for controlling an electronic system includes displaying a coordinate system on a display screen, where a first coordinate represents a range of values of the first control parameter, and a second coordinate represents a range of values of the second control parameter. The method further included visually indicating a position in coordinate system corresponding to a currently selected combination of values of the first and second control parameters, and enabling the user to select a new combination of values of the first and second control parameters by indicating a position within the coordinate system.

Synthesizing an output audio signal is provided on the basis of an input audio signal, the input audio signal comprising a plurality of input sub-band signals, wherein at least one input sub-band signal is transformed (T) from the sub-band domain to the frequency domain to obtain at least one respective transformed signal, wherein the at least one input sub-band signal is delayed and transformed (D, T) to obtain at least one respective transformed delayed signal, wherein at least two processed signals are derived (P)from the at least one transformed signal and the at least one transformed delayed signal, wherein the processed signals are inverse transformed (T) from the frequency domain to the sub-band domain to obtain respective processed sub-band signals, and wherein the output audio signal is synthesized from the processed sub-band signals.

Converting decoded sub-band signal into a stereo signal

A method of encoding input signals (l, r) to generate encoded data () is provided. The method involves processing the input signals (l, r) to determine first parameters (&#x3c6;, &#x3c6;) describing relative phase difference and temporal difference between the signals (l, r), and applying these first parameters (&#x3c6;, &#x3c6;) to process the input signals to generate intermediate signals. The method involves processing the intermediate signals to determine second parameters (&#x3b1;; IID, &#x3c1;) describing angular rotation of the first intermediate signals to generate a dominant signal (m) and a residual signal (s), the dominant signal (m) having a magnitude or energy greater than that of the residual signal (s). These second parameters are applicable to process the intermediate signals to generate the dominant (m) and residual (s) signals. The method also involves quantizing the first parameters, the second parameters, and dominant and residual signals (m, s) to generate corresponding quantized data for subsequent multiplexing to generate the encoded data ().

Stereo coding and decoding method and apparatus thereof

An audio signal is encoded by a first waveform encoder () to generate a first waveform based bit-stream component. A second encoder () encodes the audio signal to generate a second bit-stream component comprising first enhancement data and a third encoder () encodes the audio signal to generate a third bit-stream component comprising second enhancement data for the first waveform based bit-stream component. The first and second bit-stream components correspond to a first representation of the audio signal and the first and third bit-stream components correspond to a second representation of the audio signal. A scalable audio bit-stream is generated by a bit-stream generator (). The different representations may be selected between by a decoder thereby allowing a flexible and scalable bit-stream to be communicated. The second encoder () may specifically be a waveform encoder and the third encoder () may specifically be a parametric encoder.

Scalable encoding/decoding of audio signals

An audio encoding scheme or a stream that encodes audio and video data is disclosed. The scheme has particular application in mezzanine-level coding in digital television broadcasting. The scheme has a mean effective audio frame length F that equals the video frame length 1/fover an integral number M video frames, by provision of audio frames variable in length F in a defined sequence where length=F(j) at encoding. The length of the audio frames may be varied by altering the length of overlap between adjacent frames in accordance with an algorithm that repeats after a sequence of M frames. An encoder and a decoder for such a scheme are also disclosed.

Stereo coding and decoding methods and apparatus thereof

Method and apparatus are described for compensating for time offset in a received signal, so as to correctly align the frame sequence of a received signal to a sequence of transmitted symbols. Each symbol extends over Tsignal samples. The received signal is first divided into a sequence of frames of length T, and then each framedivided into a multiplicity of Nsub-frames. Subsequently, Nsequences of values are formed, where every successive value in each sequence is derived from the corresponding sub-frame within each successive frame. Each of the Nsequences is an estimate for the correctly aligned sequence of transmitted symbols.

Decoding of watermarked information signals

Coding of an audio signal (x) is provided where the coded bitstream (AS) comprises a parametric representation of the audio signal. One component of the parametric representation comprises tracks of linked sinusoidal components (CS) where subsequently linked components are coded differentially from parameters of linked signal components already determined. The coder scrambles () the differentially encoded frequency and/or amplitude values by mapping the differential values onto other differential values (CSe). By modifying these values, the bit-stream is still decode-able but results in tracks with random frequency and/or amplitude variation. Consequently, the signal will be degraded.

Method and apparatus are described for compensating for a linear time scale change in a received signal, so as to correctly rescale the frame sequence of the received signal. Firstly, an initial estimate of the sequence of symbols is extracted from the received signal. Successive estimates of correctly time scaled sequences of the symbols are then generated by interpolating the values of the initial estimates.
