A method for preventing or relieving nausea and emesis associated with the use of an emesis-causing agent in warm-blooded animals comprises administering to the animal both a narcotic analgesic and a quaternary derivative of noroxymorphone prior to, simultaneously with of after administering the emesis-causing agent. A particularly preferred noroxymorphone derivative is methylnaltrexone. The method is highly effective in preventing or relieving nausea and emesis induced by anticancer drugs, and by apomorphine.

Quaternary derivatives of noroxymorphone are used to prevent or relieve nausea and emesis associated with the use of narcotic analgesics without interfering with the analgesic activity of the drugs. A particularly preferred compound is methylnaltrexone. The compound is administered in a concentration between 0.05 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg prior to or concurrently with the administration of the narcotic analgesic.

Quaternary derivatives of noroxymorphone which relieve nausea and emesis

Quaternary derivatives of noroxymorphone are used to prevent or relieve nausea and emesis associated with the use of narcotic analgesics without interfering with the analgesic activity of the drugs. A particularly preferred compound is methylnaltrexone. The compound is administered in a concentration between 0.25 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg prior to or concurrently with the administration of the narcotic analgesic.

Said compositions are useful in treating congestive heart failures; they stimulate the heart contractility, show a vasodilating and bronchodilating activity as well as a vasodilating activity on specific districts and particularly on the renal district without causing vasoconstrictive and pressor effects.

A neutron generator utilizing relatively small plasma pulses which are constantly re-created in the reaction chamber in a conventional manner by injecting pulses of a fuel such as deuterium or deuterium and tritium, in either a gaseous or small solid pellet form, ionizing the same and compressing the same to form a plasma, while surrounding the plasma with a working gas such as hydrogen under pressure moving longitudinally through the chamber and carrying the plasma with it. As each pulse of plasma is dissipated into the working gas and carried out of the chamber, this completes its life cycle. New cycles are initiated in an appropriate manner to maintain an orderly and nearly continuous energy addition and extraction to and through the background gas.

Certain N,N-dialkyl substituted derivatives of dopamine (DA) increase renal blood flow without affecting cardiac contractility. Particularly effective are N,N-di-n-propyl DA; N-n-propyl-N-n-butyl DA; N-n-propyl-N-n-pentyl DA; N-n-propyl-N-isobutyl DA; and N-n-propyl-N-phenethyl DA. A method and apparatus for reducing pollutant emissions from a source of combustion while simultaneously increasing the combustion efficiency. In a preferred mode, the technique contemplates the separation, removal and collection of positively charged species at the combustion zone. This is achieved by applying a relatively small magnitude electrostatic field at the combustion zone via positive and negative electrode means. A negative electrode may be positioned adjacent aperture means formed in the sidewall of the combustion chamber at the combustion zone so as to attract positive ionic species that include the pollutant emissions (e.g., NO.sup.+) desired to be extracted. A negative electrode may also be electrically connected to a tube that serves to collect the pollutant for later processing to a useful by-product (e.g., nitrogenous fertilizer). Effective removal of the ionic species at the combustion zone permits combustion to occur at higher temperatures which, in turn, results in greater combustion efficiency.
