A card with a paper core and at least one chip incorporated into the paper core, characterised in that an image is arranged on at least one main surface of the paper core, at least 5% of at least one main surface are covered by a seal and the chip is covered on both main surfaces with a seal or a plastics layer, is distinguished by elevated anti-counterfeiting security, very good durability and elevated flexibility.

A flexible laminate is disclosed which includes a flexible support as a first layer and glass having a thickness in the range from 10 &#x3bc;m to 500 &#x3bc;m as a second layer and wherein the first or the second layer is a non-continuous, segmented layer. In the embodiment of the figure, a plastic foilis provided with a plurality of thin adjacent glass segments, which are separated by a space. The laminate can be provided with functional layers, e.g. using a web coating or printing process, and can then be cut easily in the space between the segments so as to obtain a plurality of glass laminates.

According to the present invention there is provided a laminating element comprising a transparent support coated with a thermally non-reversible layer comprising an ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer, a first polyurethane polymer and a second polyurethane polymer, said layer having a pH of at least 10 and containing a metallic or an amphoteric cation.

A flexible laminate is disclosed wherein a thin borosilicate glass substrate is bonded to a support, which is preferably a transparent plastic support. The glass substrate protects the support from scratches, moisture, solvents and gases, and improves the dimensional and thermal stability of the support, whereas the support protects the glass from breakage. The use of borosilicate significantly reduces the chance of breakage compared to e.g. sodium or chemically hardened glass. The laminate can be used for carrying a functional layer such as an image recording layer. The laminate is especially suitable for carrying color filters and electroconductive layers in flat panel displays.

According to the present invention there is provided an imaged element comprising an optical card and underneath a layer package comprising in the order given an optional image receiving layer, a prelayer, an interlayer and a transparent support, at least the optional image receiving layer or the prelayer comprising an image, characterized in that the interlayer contains a polyurethane and a cross-linking agent.

A security card is disclosed which comprises a laminate of a flexible glass layer and a support, characterised in that the glass layer has a thickness of not more than 350 &mgr;m. The thin glass layer has sufficient flexibility to allow substantial bending of the card without causing breakage of the glass. In addition, the glass layer acts as a security feature because delamination in order to falsify information stored in the card is very difficult without breaking the glass. The glass is also an efficient barrier layer protecting the information stored in the card from mechanical damage and from degradation due to permeation of gases such as oxygen or water vapour.

A material is disclosed which comprises a substrate and an organic electroconductive layer provided on said substrate, characterised in that the substrate is a laminate comprising a glass layer and a support. The glass layer is preferably a flexible glass layer having a thickness from 10 to 500 &mgr;m. The material can be used as an electrode in electric or semiconductor devices thereby providing an improved lifetime, e.g. displays, photovoltaic cells or light-emitting diodes.

According to the present invention a data card is provided which comprises a heat-mode laser recording medium on a support and wherein said laser recorder medium is covered by a thin flexible glass layer. The data card has a higher mechanical strength, an improved shelf-life and offers better security with regard to counterfeiting. The heat-mode laser recording medium is preferably a metal layer of which the optical reflectivity or density can be changed by laser exposure. The glass layer is preferably a borosilicate glass having a thickness less than 850 .mu.m.
