Excess radio-frequency (RF) power storage in RF identification (RFID) tags, and related systems and methods are disclosed. The RFID tag is configured to operate with RF power received in wireless RF signals from a RFID tag antenna if received RF power meets or exceeds an operational threshold power for the RFID tag. The RFID tag is also configured to store excess energy derived from excess received RF power in an energy storage device if the received RF power exceeds the operational threshold power for the RFID tag. Thus, when RF power received by the RFID tag is not sufficient for operation, the RFID tag can operate from power provided by previously stored excess energy in the energy storage device.

Excess radio-frequency (RF) power storage in RF identification (RFID) tags, and related systems and methods

Protocols, systems, and methods are disclosed for two or more RFID tags to communicate with each other using direct connections, wherein the two or more RFID tags are configured to mate and directly exchange identification information. A disclosed method includes detecting that a first RFID tag is connected to a second RFID tag. A first message comprising a first tag identification is sent directly from the first RFID tag to the second RFID tag, and the first RFID tag receives a first acknowledgement from the second RFID tag if the first tag identification was correctly received. A second message comprising a second tag identification may be sent directly from the second RFID tag to the first RFID tag and a second acknowledgement may be received from the first RFID tag if the second tag identification was correctly received.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) connected tag communications protocol and related systems and methods

There is provided a passive RFID transponder assembly that includes a condition responsive device adapted to read a condition relating to the component that is associated with the RFID transponder assembly. The condition that is read by the condition responsive device relates to physical contact with a field technician or a mating component, relates to electrical connection between an integrated circuit chip and an antenna, relates to one or more environmental conditions, or the like. The components with which the RFID transponder assemblies are associated include components of telecommunications equipment, such as fiber optic connectors, fiber optic adapters, fiber optic patch panels, copper connectors, and copper adapters to list some non-limiting examples.

Radio frequency identification transponder for communicating condition of a component

An optical-fiber-network (OFN) radio-frequency identification (RFID) system for deploying and/or maintaining and/or provisioning service and/or locating faults in an OFN. The system includes a plurality of OFN components, and at least one RFID tag that includes RFID tag data that has at least one property of the OFN component associated with the RFID tag. The RFID tag data is written to and read from the RFID tags using one or more mobile RFID readers either prior to, during or after deploying the OFN components. An OFN-component-data database unit is used to store and process the RFID tag data and is automatically updated by the one or more mobile RFID readers. This allows for different maps of the OFN to be made, such as an inventory map and a maintenance map, and for the maps to be automatically updated. The OFN-RFID system allows for mobile automated operations and management of OFN components by service personnel, and provides for faster and more accurate OFN system deployment and maintenance.

RFID systems and methods for optical fiber network deployment and maintenance

There are provided components, connectors, receptacles, cables, and systems wherein passive RFID functionality is incorporated. Also provided are passive RFID elements in general. The passive RFID elements power visual indicators based on receipt of external RF signals. Passive energy storage devices may be employed to provide electrical energy to the visual indicators. The passive energy storage devices may be charged by the external RF signals. The visual indicators may operate continuously or according to a predetermined flashing pattern.

There is provided a system for identifying a plurality of components via an RFID reader with an associated database and processing element. The system includes a first component with an associated first RFID transponder and a second component with an associated second RFID transponder. A third RFID transponder may be associated with the first component, wherein either the first or third RFID transponder includes stored information relating to both transponders. The first and second RFID transponders are adapted to communicate with the RFID reader to enable identification of the connection of the first component to the second component. One of the RFID transponders may be adapted to identify the other RFID transponder and store the identification information for subsequent communication to the RFID reader of identification information for both RFID transponders and the associated components. The system is adapted to create a map of the two or more components, such as components of telecommunications equipment.

An optical-fiber-network (OFN) radio-frequency identification (RFID) system for deploying and/or maintaining an OFN. The system includes a plurality of OFN components, and at least one RFID tag that includes RFID tag data that has at least one property of the OFN component associated with the RFID tag. Systems and methods for reading a RFID-tag signal in the presence of noise and other propagation and circuit impairments using a RFID-tag reader are disclosed. The method includes receiving with a RFID-tag reader multiple copies of an original RFID-tag signal from a RFID tag. The original RFID-tag signal comprises an original bit sequence representative of information stored in the RFID tag. At least some of the received RFID-tag signal copies differ from one another due to noise or other signal impairments. The received multiple copies are processed on a sample-by-sample basis in the RFID-tag reader using digital signal processing techniques to obtain an improved received digitized RFID tag signal that substantially removes the noise and other impairments. This improved signal is used to recover the original bit sequence and thus the information stored in the RFID tag.

Signal-processing systems and methods for RFID-tag signals

The present invention provides a method and system in a telecommunications network for restoring network element failures or network link failures in case not all network elements possess distributed restoration capabilities, for example during an introduction-phase of the distributed restoration system, or in case a network consists of different kinds of network elements provided by different providers, i.e. a multivendor network. The distributed restoration of network elements which do not possess these capabilities is taken over by the distributed restoration module of network management. The interface which is used for communication between a network element and the network management, is preferably implemented according to the q,standard. The distributed restoration module within the network management can be replaced by a central restoration module which has the advantage over the distributed module that a better solution will be found.

Distributed restoration

A method is described for rerouting a data stream previously routed via a route through a switching network which has now failed. The method includes the steps of detecting the failure on a link (L19) between first (SN1) and second (SN9) switching nodes in one of these switching nodes (SN1); transmitting from this one switching node (SN1) a request message (REQ) with first (IDA) and second (IDB) address fields containing addresses of the first (1) and second (9) switching nodes, respectively; in each switching node having received the request message (REQ) retransmitting it, until an alternative route for the data stream is found between two end switching nodes of said alternative route; and by one of these end switching nodes (SN1) chosen according to a predetermined rule after the alternative route has been found, allocating the data stream to this alternative route and transmitting it thereon.

Method for rerouting a data stream

A resequencing system (DDM, TSG, IC, REG, SUB, RSU) is disclosed for resequencing the cells of a cell stream transmitted through the cascaded connection of a first switching node (SN'), a buffer register (OB) and a second switching node (SN). It includes: a resequencing means (TSG, IC, REG, SUB, RSU) associated to the second switching node (SN), a delay measurement circuit (DDM) associated with the buffer register (OB) and adapted to measure the time delay to which each of said cells is submitted in said buffer register (OB), means to communicate the delay thus measured for each cell to the resequencing means (TSG, IC, REG, SUB, RSU). After said cell has been switched by said second switching node (SN), the resequencing means (TSG, IC, REG, SUB, RSU) submits this cell to a time delay equal to the difference between a predetermined constant time delay value and the communicated delay.
