A flow tube is axially moveable within an actuator body between a first axial position and a second axial position for actuating a downhole tool, such as for closing a subsurface safety valve. The flow tube includes an interior flow bore for conveying fluids from the tubing string through the actuator body. An external flow tube profile defined on the flow tube includes an upper shoulder for engagement with a wiper in the first axial position, a lower shoulder for engagement with the wiper in the second axial position, and a clearance path between the upper and lower shoulders for allowing viscous flow past the wiper when the flow tube is moved between the first and second axial positions.

A flapper valve assembly including a tubular forming an interior passageway; a valve seat forming a portion of the interior passageway; a flapper plate that is pivotably mounted to the tubular at a pivot point such that the flapper plate is pivotable between a valve closed and a valve open position; and a spring engaging the flapper plate such that the flapper plate is biased towards the valve closed position; wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve open position, the spring engages a top of the flapper plate at a first distance from the pivot point; wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve closed position, the spring engages the top of the flapper plate at a second distance from the pivot point; and wherein the second distance is greater than the first distance.

A flapper valve assembly that includes a tubular forming an interior passageway and comprising an internal shoulder; a valve seat forming a portion of the interior passageway and spaced from the internal shoulder to form a flapper chamber; a flapper plate that is pivotably mounted to the tubular at a pivot point and positioned within the flapper chamber; wherein the flapper plate is pivotable within the flapper chamber between a valve closed and valve open position; and a first spring extending within the flapper chamber and engaging the flapper plate such that the flapper plate is biased towards the valve closed position; wherein the first spring comprises spaced right and left arms that are in contact with the flapper plate; and wherein, when the flapper plate is in the valve closed position, each of the right and left arms extends away from the flapper plate and towards the internal shoulder.

A device and method of repairing a damaged portion of a seal bore interconnected in a tubing string, where the device can include a chamber, a piston positioned within the chamber, and a filler material contained within the chamber. A force applied to the piston can cause the piston to move within the chamber, which can cause at least a portion of the filler material to be expelled from the chamber, with at least a portion of the expelled filler material filling a recess in the damaged portion of the seal bore, thereby repairing the sealing surface of the seal bore.

An electromagnetic jarring tool and related systems and methods provide for the use of an electromagnetic system to generate jarring forces within a wellbore. The electromagnetic jarring tool includes a chamber having a first end and a second end, a magnetic hammer disposed within the chamber, and an electromagnet operable to generate an electromagnetic field across at least a portion of the chamber. The magnetic hammer is operable to move toward the second end of the chamber in response to the electromagnetic field to deliver an impact. One or more electromagnets may be included to enhance operation of the tool, and the tool may be actuated by a surface controller that selectively delivers electrical power or a control signal to the tool to specify a mode of operation of the electromagnetic jarring tool.

A safety valve system for downhole use in a wellbore comprises a safety valve comprising a sealable flow path; an annulus safety valve configured to provide fluid communication between a central flow path and an annular flow path; a landing nipple, wherein the landing nipple comprises ports configured to provide fluid communication between the annular flow path and the central flow path; and a cable passing through the sealable flow path, wherein the cable comprises a sealing mechanism and latch mechanism configured to engage the landing nipple.

A safety valve can be disposed in a wellbore that is through a fluid-producing formation. The safety valve can include a flow tube that is allowed to move at least partially independent, or free, from a piston assembly to avoid negative effects from forces on the flow tube from a closing assembly, such as one including a flapper. For example, the flow tube may not be required to be rigidly connected to a piston assembly such that the flow tube can move more than the piston assembly moves.

A downhole circulating valve includes a generally tubular outer housing having an axially extending internal passageway including an internal seat and at least one generally radially extending opening formed through the housing intersecting the internal seat. A valve element is rotatably disposed within the internal passageway. The valve element has an axially extending internal bore and a head portion disposed at least partially within the internal seat. The head portion includes at least one generally radially extending seal element. The valve element has a first position relative to the housing, wherein the seal element is not aligned with the opening, thereby allowing fluid communication between the opening and the internal passageway. The valve element has a second position relative to the housing, wherein the seal element is aligned with the opening and wherein the seal element forms a metal-to-metal seal with the internal seat, thereby preventing fluid communication between the opening and the internal passageway.

A safety valve having a mono spring closure mechanism. The closure mechanism may be free of any spiral wound spring. The closure mechanism may include a spring having a beam which bends along its length to apply a biasing force to the closure member at its fully closed position and at its fully open position. The closure mechanism may include only a single spring, with the spring having at least two legs, the legs being joined to each other at an end of each leg, and each leg including at least one beam.

In a described embodiment, a valve for use in a subterranean well is provided which includes a biasing device and a closure member having open and closed positions. The biasing device has a length which decreases as the closure member displaces toward the closed position. The biasing device may be an extension spring.

A hydraulic control system and associated methods provides selective control of operation of multiple well tool assemblies. In a described embodiment, a hydraulic control system includes a control module which has a member that is displaceable to multiple predetermined positions to thereby select from among multiple well tool assemblies for operation thereof. When the member is in a selected position, an actuator of a corresponding one of the well tool assemblies is placed in fluid communication with a flowpath connected to the control module. When the member is in another selected position, the flowpath is placed in fluid communication with an actuator of another one of the well tool assemblies.

A locating and locking mandrel and associated nipple provide for positioning an item of equipment in large bore and high weight conditions. In a described embodiment, a locating and locking mandrel includes at least one collect which is configured to cooperatively engage an internal profile of a nipple. The collect is capable of supporting the weight of the item of equipment until at least one locking member of the mandrel is engaged with another internal profile of the nipple. A seal of the mandrel is received in a seal bore of the nipple prior to insertion of the locating member or locking member into the seal bore, thereby preventing damage to the seal bore.

A retrieval tool provides enhanced functionality for retrieving an item of equipment from within a tubular string in a subterranean well. In a described embodiment, a retrieval tool includes an anchoring device. The anchoring device releasably secures the retrieval tool in the tubular string relative to the item of equipment to be retrieved. An actuator of the retrieval tool may then displace a latching mechanism relative to the anchoring device, thereby displacing the item of equipment relative to the tubular string. The latching device may latchingly engage the item of equipment in response to displacement of the latching mechanism by the actuator.

A linear indexing apparatus and associated methods of using same provide convenient operation of tools in a subterranean wellbore. In a preferred embodiment, a linear indexing apparatus has an outer tubular housing and a tubular mandrel axially slidably disposed within the housing. Two sets of slips are utilized to incrementally displace the mandrel relative to the housing. A piston associated with one of the sets of slips permits the mandrel to be incrementally indexed in response to a series of repeated applications of a predetermined differential pressure.
