Mechanisms for initiating a unicast video stream in response to a triggering event from a client node receiving a multicast video stream are disclosed. A distribution node communicatively coupled to a plurality of client nodes multicasts a first video stream of a program encoded in a first format to the plurality of client nodes. The distribution node detects a triggering event associated with a first client node of the plurality of client nodes that is receiving the first video stream. In response to the triggering event, a second video stream of the program encoded in a second format is unicasted.

Integration of a mobile hotspot into a service provider network is disclosed. A network node establishes a first wireless communication link with a mobile hotspot device. The mobile hotspot device is configured to establish a second wireless communications link with at least one client device. The network node receives an access request message from the mobile hotspot device which comprises credentials provided by the at least one client device. The network node determines that the at least one client device is authorized to access the service provider network through the mobile hotspot device based on the credentials and indicates to the mobile hotspot device that the at least one client device is authorized to access the service provider network through the mobile hotspot device.

A method, apparatus and computer-readable media for providing caller identification information. A server receives a call notification that identifies a call originating from a calling address for connection to a destination address associated with a wireless destination device. The server makes the determination that the wireless destination device is within a predetermined proximity of a media station. Based on the determination, the server communicates a caller identifier to the media station for presentation on a display device communicatively coupled to the media station.

Methods, apparatus and computer-readable media for providing caller identification information

A system and method for conducting a voice communication through a hybrid network which includes a packet internetwork, such as the Internet, connected to a circuit switched telephone network. The packet internetwork is connected to the switched telephone network through a static filter device, a packet switch, and a telephone network controlled gateway. A control processor is connected to the packet switch and to the filter device. The filter device generates a real time copy of call set up signaling dialog between the party requesting connection and the gateway which passes through or to the filter device. This duplicate of set up signaling is delivered from the filter device through the packet switch to the control processor. The control processor generates therefrom a filter device control signal which specifies the filter parameters derived from the set-up signaling dialog. This filter device control signal is delivered to the filter device and reconfigures the filter device to set filter parameters which are customized to the specific communication. The filter device thereupon filters the conversation stream of packetized voice.

Real time firewall security

An arrangement (apparatus and method) for detecting jitter caused during transport of digitally-coded information, such as MPEG-encoded data packets, and for correcting time stamp reference values in accordance with the detected jitter. The disclosed arrangement detects program clock reference (PCR) values from an MPEG-encoded transport stream, where each PCR value represents an expected arrival time of a corresponding stream segment. An actual arrival time for the corresponding stream segment is determined in response to detection of the corresponding PCR value and an independent clock signal. The expected arrival time of the stream segment and the actual arrival time are correlated with an accumulation of expected and actual arrival times of previously-received data packet stream segments in order to determine the jitter and the desired expected arrival time of the corresponding stream segment. The jitter is corrected by a combination of adaptive buffering techniques and restamping the PCR value with corrected values coinciding with the actual arrival time of the stream segments. The disclosed arrangement may be implemented in a receiver system, or as part of the network node that minimizes the effects of cell delay variation in an ATM network.

Apparatus and method for correcting jitter in data packets

Two MPEG-encoded digital data streams are simultaneously decoded in a digital entertainment terminal to provide Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-on-Picture (POP) capabilities for a conventional television. A primary MPEG-encoded data stream is decoded using a digital video processor optimized for MPEG2 decoding or a dedicated MPEG2 decoder system. A secondary MPEG-encoded data stream is partially processed by filtering the B frames of the secondary MPEG-encoded data stream and using the corresponding I and P frames in a partial decoding arrangement to obtain decompressed video data providing a limited-resolution representation of a second program. Partial decoding may also be performed using only I frames. The partial decoding may be implemented through execution of software by a general-purpose microprocessor. Alternatively, the media processor may perform the partial decoding during the idle intervals of the dedicated media processor.

An arrangement (apparatus and method) for monitoring jitter caused during transport of digitally-coded information in a packet switched network, and for managing network operations in accordance with the detected jitter. The detected jitter is used to determine whether corrective action is necessary, such as rerouting network traffic, or performing network maintenance. An actual interarrival time for the corresponding stream segment is determined in response to detection of the corresponding PCR values and an independent clock signal. The expected interarrival time of the stream segment is compared with the actual interarrival time in order to determine the jitter in the data packet stream. The jitter is corrected by a combination of adaptive buffering techniques and restamping the PCR value with corrected values coinciding with the actual interarrival time of the stream segments. The disclosed arrangement may be implemented in a receiver system, or as part of the network node that minimizes the effects of cell delay variation in an ATM network.
