Data about concentration of one or more types of molecules present within a human body are determined noninvasively using radio frequency signals. These signals at several different frequencies are generated at very low power levels are emitted and acquired using an antenna mounted to a wearable device. Information about changes to the signals, such as phase variances of the signals at different frequencies is indicative of the concentration of one or more types molecules within the user. The antenna includes concentric elements with one or more being used to emit the signal(s) while one or more are used to acquire the signal(s). Concentrations at different depths may be measured by selectively using particular concentric elements. A maximum depth may approximately equal the spacing between the elements being used at a given time. Other sensors may be emplaced or operate through windows located between one or more of the concentric elements.

Methods and devices for detection of eating behavior

Data about concentration of one or more types of molecules present within a human body are determined noninvasively using radio frequency signals. These signals generated at very low power levels are emitted and acquired using an antenna mounted to a wearable device. Information about changes to the signals is indicative of the concentration of one or more types of molecules within the user. The antenna includes two or more elements with a varying distance between them which reduces or eliminates power reflection and improves overall efficiency. The varying distance provides a first impedance at terminals of the antenna and a second impedance elsewhere on the antenna, such as midway along a long axis of the antenna. The first impedance matches an impedance of a transmitter output, a receiver input, or both. The second impedance results in the signal extending away from the antenna towards the user.

A user may be authenticated at a device through analyzing video frames of acquired video data. Feature recognition may be used to determine that features in the video frames correspond to features of an authorized user. Moreover, successive frames of the video frames may be compared to determine whether the video data is representative of a video capturing the user, or a representation of the user, such as a digital image of or a video depicting the user.

User authentication using video analysis

A camera sensitive to near infrared light is placed proximate to the skin of a user and the area illuminated by one or more infrared light sources. A set of images of one or more blood vessels is obtained at successive times. The images are processed to determine a change in size of the vessel(s) from one time to another, corresponding to expansion and contraction of the vessels responsive to contraction of the user's heart. This change may be used to determine pulse rate, elasticity of the vessel, blood pressure, or other data about the user's physiological status. The data may be used to assess health status at a particular time, determine health trends for the user, and so forth.

A variable pitch propeller is designed to adjust the pitch of the propeller blade during flight to maximize the propeller efficiency. The propeller blade may comprise airfoil cross-sections. Each cross-section may be composed of different materials at the leading edge and trailing edge. In various embodiments, these materials are selected and oriented to achieve the necessary elastic moduli of the leading and trailing edge for the airfoil cross-section. During liftoff, the airfoil at the blade tip possesses a high blade pitch (e.g. 20 degrees), thereby increasing the generated lift on the propeller blades. During flight or hover conditions when maximal lift is no longer required, the trailing edge of the airfoil displaces upward and reduces the blade pitch to minimize the drag forces on the blade tip.

An imaging system for general illumination and range imaging in strong ambient illumination conditions includes a light source, at least one image sensor with a rolling shutter, a steering device, and a controller. The light source transmits laser pulses with a structured pattern towards a scene. The steering apparatus spatially directs each of the laser pulses towards a different region of interest within the scene. The image sensor receives reflected laser pulses, via the rolling shutter, from the different regions of interest. The controller triggers the image sensor to read each of the pixels in the image sensor with the rolling shutter at a time instance when one of the laser pulses having the structured pattern is reflected onto the pixel from one of the different regions of interest.

This disclosure describes techniques to compensate for changes in a depth of field of a camera caused by changes in orientation of the camera (e.g., tilt) and changes in the temperature of the camera. For instance, the described techniques may utilize an actuator, such as a voice-coil motor, of the camera to adjust an image distance of the camera lens to compensate for changes in the depth of field of the camera caused by changes in the orientation of the camera and/or changes in temperature of the camera. One or more models may be generated using calibrated input current values for the voice-coil motor which indicate, for various changes in orientation and temperature of the camera, input current values to cause the voice-coil motor to adjust the image distance of the camera to maintain the desired depth of field.

Compensating for orientation and temperature related changes in camera focus

An occurrence of an event triggering a dynamic recalibration of cameras in a computing device can be detected. In response, respective images of an object can be acquired using each of at least three cameras in the computing device at approximately a same time. Using at least three distinct pairs of the at least three cameras, a respective apparent distance between the computing device and the object can be determined. The respective apparent distances can be analyzed to isolate at least one misaligned camera.

Approaches for identifying misaligned cameras

Approaches are described for constructing a single camera by combining an array (or other arrangement) of multiple smaller and lower resolution cameras. Each of the smaller cameras is aimed in a different direction in order to provide a wider angle and higher resolution field of view (FOV) for the resulting composite camera. Images captured by all of the cameras in the array can be stitched together using software to produce a single composite photograph. This construction method can enable the camera unit to be thinner and potentially cheaper in construction costs than an equivalent single-piece camera that has been conventionally implemented in portable devices.

Camera arrangements for wide-angle imaging

A decision engine executing on an electronic device may determine, using sensor data captured by multiple sensors of the device, whether a user is present in an environment that includes the device. If the user is determined to be present in the environment, the device may transition from a first state to a second state. The first state may be a first power state of the device in which the device is powered off or an idle or dormant state in which the device is powered on but a display of the device is powered off. Correspondingly, the second state may be a second power state of the device in which the device and the display are powered on and content is being rendered on the display. If the decision engine cannot make a determination based on the sensor data, a context engine may adjudicate the user presence determination.

A positioning system is designed to align a lens barrel with a sensor assembly. A first end of a lens barrel includes ridges along an edge. The sensor assembly includes a recessed channel with reciprocal ridges for mating with the ridges of the lens barrel. The sensor assembly also includes a plurality of shim platforms structured, each structured to position a wedge shaped shim, the wedge shaped shim including a flat bottom to slide on the shim platform and raise or lower the lens barrel relative to the reciprocal ridges on which the lens barrel rests.

The lens may propagate the light beams reflected by the substrate and the light beams reflected by the top layer.
