Pearlescent pigments may be incorporated into one or more regions of a cosmetic contact lens to add a shiny, radiant and iridescent appearance thereto. More particularly, mica based pearlescent pigments coated with an oxide, for example, titanium dioxide or iron oxide, incorporated into one or more regions of the contact lens will result in the one or more regions having a natural, wet reflective appearance.

A contact lens incorporating one or more dynamic fluid zones fabricated from a material that is readily deformable under eyelid pressure during blinking allows for the delivery of one or more agents to the eye, dynamic cosmetic eye enhancement, and/or dynamic rotational misalignment correction. The one or more agents may include therapeutic agents, nutritional agents and pharmacological agents.

The invention is a method of making a coated contact lens with desirable physiological performance. Preferably, the lenses are made from hydrophobic contact lens substrate with a hydrophilic coating material. The hydrophobic lens substrate is coated with a hydrophilic material having an expansion factor greater than one. The coated lenses have low physical defect and surface roughness profiles.
