A lighting system comprises a lighting arrangement () and a controller for controlling the lighting arrangement. The lighting arrangement comprises an artificial skylight (-) and a functional general lighting device () for providing horizontal light. The functional general lighting device comprises a horizontal luminous surface. The functional general lighting device is positioned in parallel and adjacent to the artificial skylight. A spacing between the functional general lighting device and the artificial skylight does not exceed the width of the artificial skylight. The controller is configured to control the artificial skylight and the functional general lighting device to render different light effects of a dynamic light scene. The dynamic light scene specifies a temporal sequence of light effects for each of a plurality of lighting devices, including the artificial skylight and the functional general lighting device.

The present disclosure refers to a system for providing a sequence of nodes in a single pair network, like a PoDL network. The nodes of the network are connected in series by a single pair cable comprising two conductors, and the nodes comprise means for providing a short circuit to the two conductors. The system comprises a unit for sending a short circuit signal to a node causing the node to provide the short circuit, a unit for receiving a sequence determination signal from the node providing the short circuit, wherein the signal is indicative of a position of the node, and a unit for determining a sequence of a plurality of nodes based on the signals of the plurality of nodes. Accordingly, the system allows to determine the sequence accurately in an easy manner.

The invention relates to a power providing device (), a power receiving device () and a corresponding method of providing power from a power providing device () to multiple power receiving devices () allowing for a reduction of the power consumed in stand-by situations. The invention relates to powering one or more devices, in particular in the context of Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). In an embodiment of the invention, it is proposed to equip each node () with a PD interface () that can signal multiples of the standard defined unity load (25 k&#x3a9; with tolerances) during the detection process and increase the load during a sequence of detection attempts. In that way, several nodes () can share one PSE outlet and determine the number of neighboring loads (). At the same time, each node () will offer full functionality during 'normal' stand-alone wiring. This powering concept can be combined with full or limited data communication capabilities.

Device and method for parallel powering

Control of power delivery to a DC-powered device

A wireless power transmitter capable of detecting a receiver and a method for the same is described. According to some implementations, the transmitter is configured to detect the presence of the receiver by detecting a change in capacitance in the transmitter by detecting the change in a current flowing through a capacitive circuit at the transmitter. According to some implementations, the capacitive circuit is formed by a first transmission coil corresponding to a first electrode and a second transmission coil corresponding to a second electrode. According to some implementations, the capacitive circuit is formed by a transmission coil as an electrode and a ground, or by the electrode and the receiver circuitry.

Method and device for detecting a device in a wireless power transmission system

The present invention relates to Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) systems. The invention proposes to use a classification event to communicate from the PD () to the PSE (). A sensor () may determine a sensor value, shut down the PoE connection, and reconnect so that the power up cycle with the PSE () will start. The sensor () provides a PoE resistance related to a class 0, 3 where the class relates to the sensor value (e.g., class 0=presence detected; class 1=no presence detected). This procedure may be repeated (e.g. continuously, every minute or whenever the sensor value changes such that the PSE () needs to be informed) and if needed multiple cycles can be used to increase the length of the message communicated.

Powered device, power sourcing equipment device, power-over-ethernet network system, and methods, for transmitting information through classification signals

The invention relates to a power providing system () comprising a power providing device () like a PSE and an electrical device () like a PD. In a classification mode in a first phase the power providing device provides one or several voltage pulses and the electrical device draws one or several classification current pulses for indicating the class of the electrical device, wherein in a second phase the power providing device provides one or several voltage pulses for indicating the class of the power providing device. Thus, the indication of the classes of the electrical device and of the power providing device is decoupled in two different phases, which can lead to an improved mutual classification procedure.

Power providing system

The present invention relates to a Powered Device (PD) in a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) system. The invention proposes that the PD selectively transmit to a Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) a power request based on the support of that PSE for autoclass. An autoclass supporting PSE will determine the maximum power that needs to be allocated to the PD based on measuring the power used by the autoclass supporting PD during classification. If the PSE does not support autoclass, it will instead allocate a default maximum power (based on the classification) to the PD. When the PD is operational it determines whether autoclass is supported by the PSE (). If autoclass is supported then no power request should be sent () as otherwise the PSE will allocate power based on this request instead of on the more accurate measurement.

The present invention relates to an adaptive power providing device and a method for adaptively providing power to multiple power receiving devices. A power providing device detects at its plugs or ports power drawn by the power receiving devices and adjusts the related port power budget if the drawn power consistently grows over time, thereby avoiding overpower switch-off.

In a power distribution system (e.g. PoE), a device () (e.g. PD) comprising at least one capacitor (e.g. bulk capacitor) parallel to a load () of the device, is powered by a power supply () (e.g. PSE). Inductive power transfer

The invention relates to a power distribution system comprising a power providing device () for providing power and a powered device () like a luminaire to be powered by the power providing device. The power providing device and the powered device are operable in a maximum power mode and a normal operation mode, wherein in the maximum power mode the powered device consumes an amount of power maximally consumable by the powered device and the power providing device measures the power consumed by the powered device. This measured power allows for an allocation of an amount of power in the operational mode, which is really maximally needed, wherein it is not necessary to allocate a larger amount of power, which is large enough to consider, for instance, a maximally assumed length of an electrical connection () connecting the devices, thereby improving the power budget allocation.

The invention relates to a powered device () like a luminaire for being used in a power distribution system (), which is preferentially a PoE system and which comprises a power sourcing device () for sourcing a power to the powered device. The powered device comprises an electrical load like an LED and an electrical load power providing unit for generating from the sourced power an electrical load power and for providing the electrical load power to the electrical load, wherein the electrical load power providing unit is adapted to generate the electrical load power with a power level such that an input current drawn by the powered device from the power sourcing device is maximized below a predefined upper input current threshold.
