A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along a peripheral borderline in transitions between at least the upperside and a number of clearance surfaces. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge. The main edge, from a first end of the main edge adjacent to the secondary edge, first declines toward the underside of the milling insert and then, from a lowest part, rises toward an opposite second end of the main edge. The secondary edge is inclined at an angle (&#x3b5;) in relation to the reference plane as viewed perpendicularly to the clearance surface of the secondary edge, such that a first end of the secondary edge connected to the main edge is situated on a lower level than the opposite, second end of the secondary edge.

Milling insert

A tool and a cutting insert for chip removing machining includes a tool body with an insert seat, a cutting insert mounted in the insert seat, and a fastening member. The cutting insert includes a first locking member extending in an area located outside of a central axis of the cutting insert. A second locking member configured to engage with the first locking member is provided in the insert seat. The fastening member extends through a through-hole and bears on a lower contact region of the cutting insert to press the cutting insert against a top support member provided rotationally ahead of the insert seat so that the second and first locking members lock with each other and form a radial support for the cutting insert, and on the other hand it presses an axial support region in the side surface of the cutting insert against an axial contact surface provided in the insert seat.

Tool for chip removing machining and a cutting insert

A milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a reference plane parallel thereto. A milling tool is disclosed having a front head and a rear holder, which are detachably connected by means of a male/female coupling as well as a screw and a washer. Via a main duct, cooling liquid is fed to a chamber, from which it is fed out via branch ducts to individual milling inserts. The front chamber is closed by means of a cover that is held applied against a ring surface surrounding the chamber. The cover is tightenable by means of a threaded joint that is operative independently of a threaded joint between the screw and a front section of the main duct.

Milling tool

A double-sided, indexable face milling insert, including an upperside, an underside, and a neutral plane (NP) parallel to the upperside and the underside, the neutral plane forming a right angle with a geometrical center axis (C). A plurality of indexable cutting edges are formed along circumferential borderlines in transitions between a number of clearance surfaces and the upperside as well as the underside. Each cutting edge includes a chip-removing main edge and a surface-wiping secondary edge, the secondary edge forming an obtuse angle with the main edge in planar view. A corner clearance surface extends between and connects each pair of upper and lower secondary edges, the corner clearance surface including first and second part surfaces which each form an acute angle (&#x3b7;) in side elevation view with respective reference planes (RP) parallel to the neutral plane.

Double-sided indexable face milling insert

A tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body, in which at least one seating is included, which is delimited by a base surface and a rear support protruding in relation to the base surface, the base surface including a first coupling section in the form of one or more ridges and grooves, and a replaceable cutting insert having an upperside, an underside and a clearance surface extending between the upperside and the underside and transforming into the upperside via at least one cutting edge, the underside including a second coupling section having one or more grooves and ridges which engage the grooves of the first coupling section, and vice versa, at the same time as a part of the clearance surface is urged against the rear support. An imaginary extension of the ridges of the first coupling section extends by the side of the rear support.

Tool for chip removing machining, as well as a basic body and a cutting insert therefor

A tool for chip removing machining, including a basic body and a replaceable cutting insert that has a center axis and is detachably mounted in an insert seat formed in the basic body. The seat is delimited by a bottom surface and at least one side support surface. The cutting insert includes an out of round engagement surface that is pressed against an out of round shoulder surface to rotationally secure the cutting insert. The shoulder surface is included in a separate lock member that is partially inserted in a space formed in the basic body, the space opening towards the insert seat and located between the side support surface and the bottom surface of the insert seat such that the lock member rotationally secures a lower part of the cutting insert, while an upper part of the cutting insert is supported by the side support surface.

Tool for chip removing machining, and a basic body and a lock member therefor

A tool body includes an insert seat for receiving a cutting insert for chip-removing machining. The insert seat includes a bottom surface and support surfaces upstanding from the bottom surface. Each support surface comprises at least three ridges separated by grooves. Each groove has a depth greater than zero and no greater than 0.015 mm. An insert mounted in the seat by a screw has a center hole whose axis is offset from the axis of a threaded hole of the body in which the screw is connected. That offset distance creates a prestress of the insert toward the ridges. The depth of the grooves (i.e., the height of the ridges) is substantially less than the distance of the offset.
