A method of discharging heat from a particulate material in a bed (28) of a combustor (12) in the event of an operational disturbance in a PFBC power plant. Gas from the combustor (12) is cooled in a cooling circuit (69) connected to the combustor (12) and is returned to the combustor (12) where it is allowed to pass through the bed (28). A device for carrying out the method comprises a cooling circuit (69), connected to the combustor (12), with a cooler (72) and a compressor or fan (76) which effects gas circulation through the cooling circuit (69) and the combustor (12).

Method and a device for cooling of a PFBC power plant after a gas

A method of cooling ashes and bed material when discharging the material via an ash chamber (20) in or near a combustor burning a fuel in a bed (28) of particulate material. Cooling gas is introduced into the ash chamber (20) via a gas distributor (70), is allowed to pass through a material layer (21), is discharged via a collecting device (76) and is circulated through a cooling circuit (69) with a cooler (82) by a compressor or fan (88). The invention also relates to a power plant in which the method is utilized.

Method and a device for cooling ashes in a PFBC power plant

A PFBC power plant, with a vessel containing hot gas considerably exceeding the atmospheric pressure and a blow-off device for rapidly emptying a container containing the hot gas. The blow-off device comprises a heat exchanger which is located between the hot gas vessel and a valve in the blow-off device. Heat-absorbing material in the heat exchanger absorbs heat in the hot gas and reduces the temperature in the gas so as to protect the blow-off valve against thermal shock.

In the event of an operational disturbance in a turbine-compressor unit of a PFBC plant, the turbine and the compressor are isolated from the bed vessel of the plant by closing a valve in the gas supply conduit to the turbine and by closing a valve in the conduit leading from the compressor. At the same time a valve is opened in a by-pass conduit between the compressor and the turbine. Combustion air is allowed to escape into the atmosphere via one or more blow-off valves. The bed vessel and/or a space between the pressure vessel and the bed vessel are supplied with inert gas in such a way that combustion in the bed is damped down.
