A system for setting up a wireless connection between two temporarily connected devices includes a device interconnector having a first end provided with a first wireless communication identifier and a second end provided with a second wireless communication identifier, a first device having a first interconnector mating unit, a first wireless communication unit and a first reading unit and a second device having a second interconnector mating unit, a second wireless communication unit and a second reading unit. The wireless communication units of each device is configured to receive an identifier being read by the corresponding reading unit as the device interconnector is attached to the corresponding mating unit and the wireless communication unit is configured to employ this identifier in setting up, together with the other wireless communication unit, a wireless connection between the two devices.

Wireless communication between two temporarily connected devices

An intelligent electronic device for a Substation Automation or Distribution Automation system as well as to a method and computer program product for providing it. The device has a structuring of its own functionality according to a communication standard and includes mechanically separable, replaceable hardware modules interconnected via an inter-module bus. The modules implement functionality related to function related elements of the standard and include a communication module and I/O modules. The device includes elements of the communication standard comprising one device related element and replaceable function related elements of all the functions provided by the modules. The communication module includes the device related element and function elements associated with the function of the communication module as well as functions provided by all the I/O modules.

Flexible intelligent electronic device

An electrical process interface device for provision in a low control and protection level of a Substation Automation or Distribution Automation system; the device includes a process interface unit for interfacing the electrical process at the low control and protection level, which unit has a number of parallel data connections on which I/O data related to control and protective devices on higher control and protection levels may be transmitted. The device also includes a signal conversion unit connected to the data connections, which unit packets data of the data connections according to a communication standard used by control and protective devices on the at least one higher control and protection level for allowing data to be directly transmitted between the electrical interface device on the low control and protection level and other devices on higher control and protection levels.

An intelligent electronic device and a method for activating a function in an intelligent electronic device; the device includes an inter-module bus, a first interface and a number of hardware modules connected to each other via the inter-module bus. The modules include a process control module including a control unit that senses the types of hardware modules connected to the inter-module bus, that obtains set-up data from an external portable data carrier, where the set-up data includes configuration data and verification data, where the verification data includes hardware type data related to the modules in the device, that compares the obtained verification data with own verification data including data regarding the sensed hardware type, and that activates a protection function only if there is a match between all verification data being compared.
